Looking for a strong IR program for a transfer term at a school where teaching is in English.

At the risk of stating the obvious – London School of Economics – certainly has the name recognition.

King’s College’s IR is in their War Studies department, so you would have to be comfortable with that focus.

Franklin College in Switzerland, also, I believe, has an IR department. Instruction is in English.

Doesn’t University of St Andrews have a good IR program?

American University in Bulgaria
Central European University in Budapest

Both in English, both will make you a broader and more interesting person in a way that a semester in England will not. Both will make you stand out for grad school applications, foreign service, etc.

If you REALLY want to look good for grad school applications, I’d recommend American University in Cairo. Nothing like having a little first-hand knowledge of the Middle East.

All of these places teach in English. For the same amount of money, you can do something a little more challenging and unique than England – and something that will give you a lot more mileage down the road. I recently met a student who’s taking a semester at an American University in Lithuania – What an interesting hook to have when she goes looking for an internship.

St Andrews has one of the best known IR programs - it’s the toughest course to get into at that school though because it’s so popular. I’m not sure about a study abroad term though, that might make it much easier.

How about Bilkent University, in Ankara, Turkey? They have a great IR program, taught in English, and a beautiful campus…
