Best lightweight vacuum

My baseboards are fine with Roomba. Furniture legs were getting scuffed, so we added foam to Roomba’s front to cushion it and no more scuffs. I love that Roomba cleans under furniture as we hate having to move it. We have purposely purchased furniture that has sufficiently high legs that Roomba can get underneath.

I’ve had no issues with my roomba with baseboards or furniture legs.

Dyson. We unplugged the roomba because I got tired of picking up the cat toys and whatnot before its scheduled run. With the Dyson, I can kick whatever is in the path out of its way and keep going.

For all of you that have roomba, do you have that brand or do you have one of the competitors?

I have Roomba I7. Totally love it.

Roomba it is then. May work better for her back issues than having to physically use a vacuum. Thank you for helping me decide.

We have a Dyson stick but my MIL has a Roomba and LOVES it. Total game-changer for her. She named hers Kermit and she loves watching it do its thing!

Explain to me how the Roomba deals with stairs. We have one step down to our family room on the first floor. And one flight of steps down from the second. I would love one for the second floor…but there are four bedrooms and a hall. Is this thing smart enough to go into each bedroom?

It doesn’t do stairs. You would need to carry it up. That said, it has a sensor so it won’t fall down the stairs.

I have a three story house. I just pick up and move the roomba to the floor I want done and then bring it down when it’s finished.

The roomba makes a “smart map” of the house which you can then label. You can tell it, via phone app, which rooms you want cleaned and when.

So yes, smart enough to do each bedroom.

I knew it had to be carried down and up steps. I just wanted to make sure it didn’t fall down…and stopped before it went off the edge!

Good to hear it’s smart enough to go into four separate rooms.

This is one of those items I wish I could try before I buy it. (Please don’t recommend Costco…not a member)

There are magnetic strips you put down so that the roomba won’t go where you don’t want it to go.

I’m happy so many people love their roombas. By the time i shut off the rooms and put down the magnetic strips so it doesn’t get hung up where I have cords, I could be done sweeping.

I don’t use mine much

I will admit to being a little obsessive about vacuuming:). I have a vacuum on each floor of our home and a very sheddy dog that requires me to use them several times a week. I really like the Dyson V8 Animal. I should probably get a roomba!

Even tho the Roomba is supposed to be able to sense stairs, we put a physical barrier to keep it from going anywhere we don’t want it to go. An empty laundry back is sufficient. We have been very happy with ours over the years and feel it really helps lower the allergen level in our dwellings.

If you have a nearby friend or family member with a Roomba, maybe you could borrow one?

We have never had our roomba take a tumble down the stairs, not even close. I’ve also found the smart map highly customizable so if I tell it just to do the hall and master bedroom, it bypasses the other rooms.

I don’t want it to bypass any upstairs rooms! I just don’t want it falling down the stairs!

You will have no issues!

If you have a Costco membership, they carry an upgraded version of the Roomba i7+ as the Costco-only i8+. Fairly minor upgrade, basically a slightly larger battery, but significantly cheaper price than other retailers’ i7+. We got one a couple months ago and we’re super happy with it.

Roomba also has a brand new model that’s supposed to avoid pet poop and other floor clutter. It appears to have mixed reviews so far on Amazon, though. I suspect it’ll improve as they work on upgrading the AI and the v1.0 bugs.

For a cordless stick vac, I looked at the Dyson but didn’t like that it doesn’t have a trigger lock. I got a Tineco instead that I’m pretty happy with, but the Roomba does all the work these days and we just use the stick vac for small specific spot cleaning.

Not all Roomba models have the mapping feature, I believe only the models i7 and higher. The i3 does not have it.

In addition to the mapping feature, you can edit the maps to add “no-go” zones. This replaces the old system of having to use the magnetic strips or whatever they used to use. So if you’re worried about stairs you can just put a no-go zone at the top of the stairwell. I have a couple no-go areas where I have a lot of cables like behind my desk.

That said, there’s a lot of different models and I’m no expert so make sure the one you choose has the specific features you want.

They need to invent a Roomba that can vacuum my carpeted stairs.

I have loved my Dyson stick until the battery died, replacements are so expensive.

How does the Roomba do with fringe on rugs?
