what are good majors for undergrad at rice???

the sciences...

Do what you enjoy the most. Rice is one of the best schools in the country for the natural sciences and engineering, if those are the fields that interest you.

Rice is a great place... overalll its a good university for most majors. So pick what YOU want to do...

rice/baylor program is the best in the country

as is the school of architecture and the music school

how about prelaw?

(sigh) there is no pre-law major. i really like the philosophy department here, though. i am really amazed. philosophy is something that is taught horribly in high schools, if at all. i am in my 3rd philosophy course, and i still have not written a paper. if you can't imagine that, then that is exactly what i am talking about.

YUP.. no prelab major here

wait, if there is no prelaw, then what do students, who want to go into law, do?
thats so weird

I think he means there's no pre-law * major * but maybe a prelaw program within majors. I could likely be wrong, but it shouldn't matter because you can get into law school even as a pottery major as long as you do well on the lsat.

Yeah dude, unlike medicine, law schools have no prerequisites. How it works is that you take whatever classes/major that you want, then you take the LSAT.
90% of law school admissions is based on GPA/LSAT. So in a sense, the best major for pre-law is whatever you can get the highest GPA in.

so i guess the legally blond movie is quite accurate :)

oh ok thats good. thanks

I wanna major in pre-med. so at Rice which dept for undergrad is better though, bio or chem (for pre-med)????

premed isnt a major... so you can be a history majopr and premed

Premed is a set of courses u take... its like a curriculum not a major exactly

So u do what you like and also be pre med

sreis -

You really haven't written a paper in your phil classes? I don't know, the phil class i took at rice and the one i took while abroad definitely had papers involved. But i thought writing them was worthwhile. It really helped me to crystallize my ideas.

no, I haven't. i mentioned that because it is so different from what i would expect.

I certainly wrote papers for my philosophy class. What did you take, sreis?

106, 305, 357.
