I’m really bad at math and I was wondering what math teachers you guys have had and liked(or not liked) so I know who to go for and who to avoid. Also, where would you recommend going to get math tutoring? Thanks! Any tips are appreciated. :)

There’s so many math professors at ASU, it’s probably very hard to find someone who had the same one. I’d suggest going onto ratemyprofessors.com and looking up the teacher’s ratings. They’re not always true, but they’ve always given me a good indication if they’re not completely awful. As for tutoring, there’s a few math tutoring centers on campus, including the one in the math building. You can go pretty much anytime. More info here: [Tutoring Center | School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences](http://math.asu.edu/fym/TutorCenter/TutorCenter.html)

Daughter’s friend really liked D’Allesandro (I think that’s approximately correct spelling) teaches MAT 210 and also MAT 270. Along with ratemyprofessors, there is another site myedu.com that charges a small subscription fee and gives an idea of the grade distribution for the class, broken down by professor when available, and a workload rating for the class (the fee is something like $10 per year). Since D is an entering freshman, don’t know yet if this information is really worth paying for, but it’s inexpensive relative to the cost of everything else!

Aren’t you a business major? If so, working on your math skills will be well worth the time - take advantage of tutoring and invest the effort in finding a good tutor you can work with.

Sorry I forgot to mention I’m taking MAT 210.

@christa: I actually did look at rate my professors, I’ve been placed with Choi and her bad reviews made me really nervous about having her.
@bchan1: Thanks! I’ve heard some good things about him too so I’m going to see if his class fits in my schedule. I am a business major, and I guess it’s not that I’m “terrible” at math but I do have to work really hard at it. I’m definitely going to get a tutor and try and form a study group.

Thanks!

I took Hawkins for MAT 211, and she teaches 210. I’d recommend her because she’s very thorough and makes sure everyone understands everything before moving on, and has some review sessions before each exam. My biggest recommendation would be to go to every class and utilize your professor’s office hours if you are having specific problems. Good luck!

Google “rate my professors” for the website and there are tons of ratings for ASU teachers! I made sure I got a really good math teacher (based on the ratings of course). I hope that helps!

I’d recommend Fulman for 210 and 211. Very clear, nice, and no surprises on the exams. Whomever you get, make sure to spend an adequate amount of time each week studying. If math isn’t your strongest area procrastination will destroy you. As for tutoring, there are many learning centers around campus: one in Hassayampa, one in the MU, one in the Physical Science building, and I think there’s one on north campus (palo verde, etc.).

I had Boerner for 270 and 211, (he also teaches 210), and I thought he was a good prof, very helpful, understanding of problems (was able to move a test), good at teaching.
