I am an accounting major and trying to figure out what a good minor would be. I am deciding between three options.
- Sustainable Business - I am passionate about the environment and would like to eventually work for an environmentally friendly company one day or something like that.
- Information Systems - This just seems like a good choice for an accounting major in general.
- Professional and Technical Writing - I'm not sure if this looks good with accounting but I've heard that accountants can be bad writers so it might be good to have something writing focused. Writing is a strength of mine but I haven't had much experience with professional writing.
Any input is appreciated! Thanks!
Oh, and I am looking to get my CPA if that matters.
Information Systems, Finance or Statistics pair up well with accounting.
Professional & Technical Writing is intriguing, however.
If I may ask, which university ? (Okay if you would rather not say publicly, but your options are interesting.)
As the previous poster posted, info. systems and finance would complement well with accounting.
@Publisher I’m at UW-La Crosse!
Although the quant tracks (as stated) line up and are “the norm”, I also find the Professional and Technical Writing intriguing. Once you get past your first few yrs in the workforce, being a good writer / communicator is really important for career progression in most fields.
Even if you go the more traditional route, I would take some electives in Professional and Technical writing. Can’t stress enough how important it is to be able to convey your ideas concisely and powerfully.
