Best Minor for Econ/Math Major

Hi, I’m majoring in Econ/Math. It’s a joint major, and I learn some math and some economics.
There are several minors that I am really interested in, but because I don’t have many free electives left, I can only choose one minor among these.

Business Finance (offered by Business School)
International Relations
International Policy and Management
Web Development (web databases, create interactive user interfaces, design applications,)
Digital Studies (Offered by cinematic arts school; producing sophisticated media-rich work)
East Asian Area Studies (I took a class and it’s very interesting)

I also wanted to minor in Statistics, but my major does not allow that. Still, I can take stat classes, but then I won’t be able to minor anything.

What are the potential career paths for each combination?
Thank you so much!!!

Economics combined with math is typically aimed at preparation for PhD study in economics; is this of interest to you?

If so, consider course work in statistics (e.g. calculus-based probability theory) and any subject which may be of interest in the context of economics and math (e.g. other social studies like psychology and sociology, area studies).

Quantitative finance may be another direction; consider course work in computer science, statistics, and finance.

Rather than choosing a specific minor, why not use your free electives to take classes in each of these areas and learn a little more about them? You already have two majors; you don’t need a minor.

Minors rarely open up additional career paths - your career path won’t necessarily change because you minored in quantitative finance vs. digital studies. They’re sometimes a good way to add additional skills, but you can do that without minoring in anything just by taking classes. Really minors are just good for exploring an additional area in some depth, but if you can’t choose one specifically, simply taking extra classes and exploring a little is fine!
