Applying to-
Mit,
cornell CALS (International Agriculture and Rural Development)
duke
upenn
colombia

might apply to hyp (should I, even just for fun?)

wanted to apply to uchicago but decided not to waste time as the most realist mode of transport from nyc to chicago would be $300 to $400 round trip or something plane fare

Conditions:
* i absolutely have to stay within cheap travel distance of nyc (im a nyc resident and I have an extensive dental treatment plan underway that already took too long to start and I dont want to disrupt it)
* decent endowment, FA would be super nice (unless its MIT, my dream school, or maybe colombia)
* im a minority, so 10-20+% diversity would be really nice

Question: are there any colleges in the NorthEast region you guy think I would make a mistake not to apply to (with 2 weeks to go)

PS_ sorry if I sound forward, disregard typos and whatnot, im kinda really stressed :(((
any input will be truly appreciated

EDIT- am applying to SUNY geneseo, stony, and macauly honors as my matches
Also, I just need to travel to NYC about once a month, so I suppose $150 would be the absolute upper limit in travel budget

Is it not possible to transfer the dental plan to another city? I have a disorder which is hugely helped by having a doctor who knows me, and even then both of the people who treated me helped me map out how to get properly treated in another city.

Fwiw, my mom did her UG at Brandeis and then went on to a top econ graduate program (didn’t finish though).

Hmmm yeah I was wondering about that. I definitely will be asking her (my dentist) ntext appointment. …but shes not the friendliest person I know… but Ill try anyways.
Apparently uChicago is kinda easy to get into RELATIVE to other top tiers?
anyways, ty for the comment!

There was a time when U Chicago was easier, but they cranked up their marketing several years ago and now they have higher SAT scores than MIT and about the same acceptance rate (8.8% vs. 8.1%).

Tufts is located four miles (four subway stops) from MIT and meets full need for financial aid. SAT scores are a little higher than Cornell, but the acceptance rate is also a little higher (17%), so it is not impossible to get into.

The Econ department doesn’t show up in the university rankings because it is a relatively small department that does not have a Phd program (only a Masters program). It was ranked #1 in the country for masters programs, but that is such an obscure ranking that nobody knows about it. The economic sub-disciplines where the department is strongest are those that are involved in International Relations rather than Corporate Finance, but recently, alums in the finance industry have funded a new minor in Finance. Eugene Fama, 2013 Nobel Laureate in Economics, and one of the stars at UChicago is a Tufts Econ alum.

Comp Sci is a relatively small, but strong department as well with a small Phd program and an interdisciplinary research focus. Strong in AI/Machine Learning and other leading edge technologies. Not as intense as MIT, but comparable average starting salary. Comp Sci is easily combined with Econ either as a double major or a minor. This can be a powerful combination.

In addition to schools listed by others above, if you want to be in/near NYC I’d consider Fordham (where people with high stats typically get merit aid) and (if female) Barnard. NYU generally doesn’t give great aid.

ty guys so much!
Ive been considering Fordham as Im hearing more mentions of it from me GC and classmates. Will definitely consider.
As for my matches, im fairly confident Ill be accepted to stony, geneseo, and perhaps even macauly, all of which id be more than happy to be given the chance to attend. If not that, then definitely regular hunter. So I believe matches/safety are taken care of

My purpose of this thread was actually to discern whether or not im missing any highmatch- reach schools which I may have even a smidgen of a chance at getting in (sorry, i didnt make that clear)
