Best Option for Attending Medical School?

I am a high school senior about to decide on which college to attend next year and am unclear on what path to take. My goal is to attend medical school after college. I have decided to major in Biomedical Engineering in most of my schools so I can have an engineering degree as a back up if I do not get into medical school.

However, I have heard that Biomedical Engineering is one of the toughest majors hence it will be harder for me to get a higher gpa. Since I've heard that medical schools only look at an applicant's GPA and MCAT score and not which undergrad institution they attended, is it wise to major in BME if I intend on attending medical school?

The colleges which I can attend are Drexel University, Boston University, University of Michigan and New York University.

College / Scholarship / Tuition / Major / Opportunities

Boston University / $13,500 / $46,000 / BME /

Drexel University / $18,000 / $39,000 / BME / Honors College, admitted to 4-year research program (pays $4,000 per summer)

New York University / 0 / $46,000 / Biology /

University of Michigan / 0 / $40,000 / Biology /

Each college has its strengths and weaknesses. Boston University has the best Biomedical Engineering program out of all the schools while University of Michigan and NYU have greater prestige + are better schools.

Which college would be best to go to if I intend on attending medical school?

thanks

Short answer, ignore the med school considerations and go where you have the best fit and will have the best chance at success academically, socially, physically and emotionally - with great balance between those areas.

I would go to Drexel for that research thing unless UMich can offer a better deal.

^^ I agree. You need to have research experience for med school and Drexel has set it up for you. Plus it's the cheapest out of the 4, especially with the $18,000 scholarship.

1.) You almost need to have research experience for some med schools, yes.
2.) I'm sure you can find plenty of research opportunities at the others as well.
