Could someone please give me ideal places for summer housing and when I should start to look? I will be taking classes near the Ag Quad this summer and I am hoping to stay somewhere that isn't too far from it. But better housing prices will come first of course :)
Thanks!

My group of friends is subletting our townhouse in Gun Hill Residences… prices should be the best you can find so contact me if you want details… there should be shuttles running every 15 minutes (most of my classes are also on the ag quad) so the distance shouldnt be a problem…

otherwise, you could look into the dorms (which will be more expensive). you should start looking ASAP. sometimes summer housing fills up fast.

Yep, I already had Gun Hill in mind as my first choice probably. Are there any other places I should be aware of near west and collegetown?

idk about collegetown but they tend to be more expensive. theres ravenwood right behind west campus but im not a fan of the apartments.

You could try looking into the co-ops. I heard that they’re really cheap to live in over the summer.

gun hill is farther than collegetown isn’t it? Most of the people who signed leases for collegetown that begin in june will probably want to sublet their apartments since they will be gone. Anyway, That’s probably what I would do. Look on craigs list or similar sites in the next couple months and I’m sure there will be ads, or ask your friends who are living in c-town next year.

Could someone explain how a co-op works? And where are they generally located? I’m also a male if someone hasn’t already realized… :)

I would recommend subletting. I have not sublet for the entire summer yet, but that’s my plan in the future. I think it’s also advisable to sublet from someone you know (or from someone who knows someone you know…keep the degrees of separation low.) I am not a particularly social person and I still know multiple people currently looking to sublet for summer 2011. (no males, though, so I can’t help you directly.)

Sorry, this is my last post on this I promise, but can anyone give comments about Maplewood and what areas would be nice for summer housing there? Last I heard, there was a certain incident there several years ago…

Edit: Actually, I just looked it up, is it only for grad students?!

Co-ops are the cheapest (unless you have connections). I sublet a room in Von Cramm last summer for $60/week and made some friends while I was there. I’d say email the co-op managers to see their rates/if they’ll be subletting rooms. You’ll have to do chores/dish duty once a week, though, but for $240/month, who cares?

Yeah your best choices should be co-ops or sublets in ctown apartments. Like someone previously said, most leases start in June and most people won’t be on campus at that time and there should be a huge amount of people that want to sublet their apartments.
