I'm pretty social and as much as I know I have to focus on classes and such, I'll need a good party every so often (I hear frosh is amazing). So basically what's the best party dorm or the most social dorm?

im going there next year as well, and id like to know which dorm has good parties.

Molson's a constant party...If that's what you're looking for...right on.

Word to wise about Molson, though: its reputation, "[we've been] lowering GPA's since 1967," (not sure about the date) isn't playful or false. It seems like every time I look out my window there's a party in the molson common room, and of the people I know in molson (including friends of mine) not much work gets done (or lecture attending either for that matter).

This post should be noted as purely anecdotal, though. I don't have any hard data to back any of this up, just what I've seen (which, admittedly, is just a handful of molsonites).

It changes every year. The only constants at McGill residences is that New Rez will always have the most coke and Solin will always have the most people wanting to move out.

Why would people want to move out of solin ?lol....I put that as my first choice for the dorms and new rez as my second choice..
I just liked the idea of having a 3-4 single bedrooms in an appt....

New Rez has coke?! Seriously?

I dont want to be anywhere where there are hard drugs...

Is it just because New Rez has the stigma of being all the rich kids?

...if you don't want to be anywhere near hard drugs, perhaps a parochial single-sex school would be better for you. This is college, and people do that here. It may not be in the dorm next to you, but certainly someone somewhere in your dorm will have tried/or will be trying a hard drug sometime during your stay here.

For instance, I met a guy from gardner who tried mescaline the other weekend...Hard drugs aren't the norm here by any mean, HOWEVER, that doesn't mean the aren't here at all.

yeah, I mean obviously there will be drugs, especially at a school as large as McGill.

I guess what I meant was more like is there widespread cocaine use among residents, and you relieved my worries about that! :) thanks

Actually I find that hard drugs are pretty readily available on campus.

McGill doesn't have an epidemic of cokeheads or heroin junkies or anything but this is university and this is Montreal. This city has a reputation to maintain of being a Sin City, otherwise, it'd be...Ottawa.

Hahahahaha...

Hear!Hear!

Montreal's closer to the North American version of Amsterdam

I am almost positive that I will be going to McGill next year. This is what I'm thinking regarding dorms --

Douglass

New Rez

McConnell, Garnder, I forget what the third matching one was...

I definately like to go out, but I need sleep. I thought Douglass might be good because it's near McC, Gard etc. but not in them. Is this true? Any advice?

I'm at Doug this year and all I can say is I love it. It's not as quiet as you'd think, there are always the loud houses and party floors, but it is possible to get some shut-eye. A lot of parties are organised in the ballroom so it gets pretty hectic sometimes, but that might also be because my room is directly above it.

I can't say much about New Rez except that the food is exponentially better than at Doug/BMH( i.e. McConnell etc). The only big complaints I've heard are the fact that there are too many people and a lot of snobs.

p.s. Douglas has great parties in the courtyard when the weather is good.

McConnell is a good party hall.. but floor 2 and 7 is quieter I think?

Yeah, McConnell has had some pretty awesome parties this year.

New Residence has air conditioning..

floor 5 of McConnell is the only floor in upper rez to not only host a kegger, but multiple keggers. Hell, I don't even know of any other rez's that hosted keggers.

If you are looking for a rez where you can close the door and be quite and truly relax, it's new rez. If you don't want to be far from campus, then pick another.

Obviously I'm in new rez, so there's bias, but you get a huge room, super comfy ottoman and sofa, and a queen sized bed. The walls are solid concrete underneath so sounds from other rooms are very muffled. Oh, and your own bathroom (by own i mean you only have to share it with your roommate). Every single floor has a dedicated study room apart from the common room, and the building has another giant study room in the basement area. Also, there's a restaurant area with pool and foosball tables where usually there's nobody there and you can sit in these huge restaurant lounge seats and spread all your stuff on the giant marble table to study.

It's not without its parties but usually one or two floors stand out as huge partiers. (floor four, drinks more, floor four, drinks more...)
