^^^^I’ve eaten at the Roadhouse too. Overpriced!

"Real Seafood, Gratzi, or Chop House. "

the chophouse is terrible… However, to be fair, it is actually not really expensive despite what people always say… I don’t know why a lot of people think the chophouse is “very expensive”…

but geez… 4 things

1) they better learn how to cook a wellington… I have had a lot of wellingtons in my life and I have never seen something more crap ugly and falls apart easier than the one they serve…

2) the porterhouse they served was 95% sirloin side (which I hate) and 5% rideye side (which I like)… maybe a little balance there next time… The chef needs to learn what rare means. They served medium rare even though I specified rare. The waiter also needs to learn not to assume that customers are idiots and not ask me “cold red center” after I say rare. I probably know wth rare is. And the ironic thing is they served me warm red center after all.

3) New york strip was ok… but I felt like it was the type of quality I get from outback or some other junk places…piper jeffray-ish… Again, this time learn what medium rare means. They served medium.

4) It has no character. Every good restaurant has character, its signature dish and its uniqueness. This one has none.

I dont understand why so many people in Ann Arbor thinks this restaurant is fine dining. It isn’t even close to being upscale.

Real seafood and gratzi are decent for their prices. I mean obvious nothing special… but a good decent casual meal.

If you guys don’t mind driving, I recommend “the lark”. it’s not great, but it’s good, IMO the best I had in the state of michigan, which obviously doesnt mean much but still a place to have a good REAL meal… oh and the desert trolley is great value and a must get.

Signature dish Rack of Lamb is great.

You paid $82 for “good” …?

" You paid $82 for “good” …? "

Maybe we have different standards, but $70-90 (wine not included) may be slightly on the high side, but not unreasonable for “good” restaurants…
A few things about the Lark that makes it not great:
- Server took my plate from my left once
- Women in our dinner party got a menu with price on it
- Not too sophisticated food. Great restaurant serves artwork, not food put together as a plate
- The lamb is nice. Beef and Veal = unimpressive, not the cooking, but you can taste that the ingredient is not the best.
- Not the most sophisticated wait staff

Here are the actual GREAT RESTAURANTS in my mind:
- Guy Savoy in Paris
- Masa
- Mandarin Grill in Hong Kong
- Charlie Trotter
- Per Se
6.alinea - the london (heard it sucks now)
- Everest
- aragawa in Tokyu
- Wolfgang (the one in beverly hills)
- Les Amis in Singapore (the one on Orchard Road)
- Tony’s in houston (went there this summer during my internship, surprisingly inexpensive… I think even cheaper than the lark, but definitely better… they also have great catering. Our office had them cater our lunch once during bid week and it was great… Fine dining for non-fine dining price)

and my absolute favorite best restaurant l’ambroisie
doesnt matter how much you hate the french, they are way better than anything even New York can offer.

btw my family friend told us Alinea just updated its tasting menu and it’s great

the whole state of michigan lacks a restaurant that can remotely hold a candle to any of the restaurants above, which is sad

How can I forget The French Laundry? :)

Get real. Most of the planet lacks these type of restaurants, not just Michigan. It’s not sad at all in my opinion. They would never survive here, especially in this economy.

Dang, the most I usually spend on my dinner out is $2 (a McChicken and medium fries w/ water)…does AA have a McDonald’s?

^^^There is one on Plymouth Rd. near the north campus. Still not very convenient.

Sure you wont find one in Kansas, Iraq or somewhere irrelevant, but almost any relevant city around the world has signature fine dining restaurants… maybe I am making this statement under the false assumption that detroit is a relevant city.

"There is one on Plymouth Rd. near the north campus. Still not very convenient. "

I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND A MCDONALDS SINCE I GOT HERE OMG.

Yosup: If you find yourself hungry once you get here let me know, I am flat broke and have found all sorts of little places to substitute the mcdonalds portion of my diet. :P

For future reference: [Restaurant Locator](http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/rest_locator.html)

They have a Wendy’s on campus… I don’t know if you have brand loyalty or if McDonald’s is actually cheaper. There’s also a place called backroom pizza that sells pizza slices for a dollar.

“smart casual recommendations not white tablecloth, but not pub food”
Anyways, the OP’s question was answered a while ago.
