Hi, I'm a junior in high school and I did Summer@Brown last year. It was an amazing experience and I'm hoping to do something similar at another great university. Where have you all gone? I'm thinking about Harvard SSP, Princeton, Georgetown, Cornell, etc. Any advice would be great! Thanks everyone

It depends a LOT on what you mean by “best”. It can mean “most fun”, “learned the most”, “met the most interesting people”, “helped me decide on major/career options”, or “helped my college admissions chances”. I am going to guess that you don’t mean the last one, as paid programs at colleges don’t usually do much for your admissions per se.

This thread might have some useful information. It has a pretty long list of different types of programs. Some application deadlines have passed, but some are still open.

Thanks! And by best, I just mean a program that is geared toward high school students, rather than something where you pay a ridiculous amount to sit in a class that only meets twice a week with all college students. Summer@Brown was great because we had a class that met every day for 3 hours. The rest of the time was allotted to spending time with friends (I met a ton of amazing people), exploring the city, and having a fun time.

Think different.

Many of the best programs are sponsored/hosted by colleges with smaller reputations, actually - and a lot of them are free. But to point you in the right direction, one’d need to know your interests. Lists are mentioned at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1277483-summer-programs-start-looking-winter.html.
