Hi! I’m a junior right now in high school. I’m thinking about going to colleges with good premed programs. Right now, there are several colleges on my list for visiting: William and Mary, Furman, Emory, Amherst and Northwestern. I am right now leading towards Furman and W&M because of their small freshman population and high med school acceptance rates. Where will I be able to have really good research opportunities, and which will really prepare you really well for admission into a good medical. Do they all have good premed programs? How are the academics and social life? Can you please give me some suggestions.

Hi, I’m a freshman at W&M. I’m not a science person, but I can give you info based on what I’ve heard.
There is no specific premed program here. Most people considering med school end up majoring in biology, I believe. Check this out for some more info: http://www.wm.edu/as/undergraduate/advising/for_students/academic-resources/advising_network/preprofessional/premed/
Academics here are great, it’s consistently ranked as a top 5-ish public school in the country.
Let me know if you have any other questions
MY D is a freshman at the college. Though she has not officially declared, she is looking at Bio and a Public Health minor (with one eye off and on med school).
Based on convos with her, I would describe her Bio classes as rigorous to say the least, and she studies harder than she ever has. Despite that, she thoroughly enjoys them and has spoken highly of her professors. She is currently in an intro class being taught by the head of the department.
She has also recently been invited to join a research project.
The academics all around are top notch, and the social life works for her. She never seems to have a problem finding something to do when she has down time. It’s not a raging campus for sure but parties can be found.
