Best Preparation for Euro History AP

I am becoming a sophomore and I am taking European History. Do you have any tips or any good prep books I should buy? I am considering the Cliffs AP for it. I year Sparknotes is bad, but I will buy the spark charts.

Which test prep books do you guys suggest?

Modern European History, REA(some useless info), and PR(kind of brief) are the best books.

Your question is bringing back those miserable days of mental chaos during the first week of May... ahh!

Ok, so, I personally didn't kill myself in this class... I didn't even use a review book during those last couple weeks of panic. Somehow, I got a 5 (perhaps I'll become religious now?!). My recommendation is that you do all of the assignments, listen during class, and take very efficient notes. This may all seem obvious and pretty basic, but wow, the tendency to slack off in this class is insane! It's especially important to do everything piece by piece, one at a time, before moving on, because it's hard to cram when there is SO MUCH you need to know. You've just got to study carefully and properly. My friend started reviewing 2 months before the exam with 2 different review books. He was 3 chapters ahead of everyone by April. But while he got a 4, some kids who just did the scheduled assigments and worked hard got 4s and 5s. As for myself, I started off the year in great shape: all of the assignments completed, typed notes, a contributor to class discussion. By December, I was scribbling notes during lunch.

The writing on the AP Exam is crucial. Anyone can write a solid DBQ becasue all of the information you need is in front of you. So, be sure to master the technique for writing a DBQ. Organization is important in all of the essays, so, in review, understand concepts and practice outlining general questions.

A review book will no doubt help. I've heard that the Princeton Review book "Cracking the AP European History Exam" is pretty good. The other popular book seemed to be "Modern European History" by Viault (Schaum's).

Despite my complaing, it's a really great course. At the time, it was overwhelming, but now I'm really glad I took it and that I can follow everything on the history channel! haha, well, hope this helps at least a little bit. good luck!

thanks for the great tips guys!

So I will get Shaum's review I suppose to refer to throughout the year.

"Modern European History" by Birdsall S. Viault = The AP Euro Bible

yeah, thats the book I meant.

but wait... its 15 years old...! Am I looking at the right edition.. 9th Edition on Amazon.com

just get REA's AP European History, I self studied Euro w/ that and got a 4. If you take the class and that you should be set up for a 5

Read REA for a 5

REA got me a 5 but it includes too many specific details.
