Best PRIVATE nonivy urban UGrad business school in the Northeast?

Hey everyone, can anyone judge the following schools based on reputation, prestige, and (in effect) employer preferences? Let's try to forget the rankings for this thread. Just base it on what you hear from your peers, parents, profs, relatives, etc.

Heres the list:

Georgetown
George Washington
Carnegie Mellon
NYU
Boston College

More specifically, can anyone compare GeorgeWashingtonU and Georgetown? Thanks.

NYU Stern
Carnegie Mellon Tepper
Georgetown McDonough
Boston College Carroll
George Washington

NYU-Stern is definitely the best on that list.

don’t know much about those other schools, but NYU immediately stood out to me.

Stern
CMU/Georgetown/BC
GW

Boston College should not be mentioned in the same sentence as CMU and Georgetown. It is “slightly” better than GWU. Personally i feel that BC is slightly overrated in overall rankings. It should be nowhere near NYU because NYU is superior to BC!

Stern
Tepper
Georgetown
BC
GW

To be honest, GW business is not very good. Others that fit your description but aren’t on the list: Villanova, Fordham, BU, Pitt.

NYU is clearly the strongest on your list, followed by Carnegie Mellon. Both schools place well on wall street.

Georgetown, despite its prestige, is not as strong as NYU or CMU for business.
Boston College is ok, but not much recruitment from big wall street.
GWU would be the worst option.

Georgetown undergrad business is attached to a school with a top 20 MBA in both the Financial Times and US News and does not have what is now a disadvantage in this economy, a New York base. There are actually more professional services jobs in DC as the government is the only sector not cutting back.

i actually disagree with some other folks who have posted, I think CMU and Georgetown are both better than NYU for undergraduate business. I have had a lot of friends goto NYU stern over the years, and the actual recruiting for the good entry level business jobs, is actually not very good, the stern building/facilities are terrible, the great thing about it is that it’s in manhattan and you will have had a lot of work experiences by the time you graduate. But, I’d rather goto Georgetown or CMU.

Pitt isn’t private, its state related. My future school, Syracuse, however does fit this criteria although the city of Syracuse isn’t as urban as the other ones you listed. (BC is actually more suburban tho)

You can check the Business Week undergraduate rankings. American U. is 28th, Syracuse is 49th, George Washington is 65th. Georgetown is 24th.

That’s pretty accurate, altho I think American may be a little overrated on those rankings. Out of all the schools mentioned I’d go:

NYU
Carnegie Mellon
Georgetown
Villanova
Boston College
Syracuse
BU
Fordham
American
George Washington

Also where’s MIT? I’d put that above all of these schools.

I would put Babson, and Northeastern University over Boston University for business easily. My list is below

1.)MIT
2.)NYU
3.)CMU
4.)Georgetown
5.)Villanova
6.)Boston College
7.)Northeastern University
8.)Babson
9.)American University
10.)Fordham

Thanks for the input everyone, looks like its unanimous that 1- Stern 2- Tepper 3- McDonough

Which is the better school for ugrad biz though? Northeastern or BU.
If i recall correctly, Northeastern has a stellar international biz program

Another thing, Boston College’s reputation seems to vary greatly depending on who you ask. Is it worth applying to?

northeastern is better than BU I would say.

but yes I’m all about Stern.

Northeastern and BU are fairly evenly matched overall, both with different strengths… but I think when it comes to business NU has the edge. And yes, the international business program is very good.
