Best Program in New York City!

BTW, if you want easy access to NYC, just applying to schools in NY State is not necessarily your best bet… SUNY Buffalo and Fredonia are HOURS (like 8-10) hours away from NYC and SUNY Cortland is about4 hours with no easy access. Boston schools probably have easier access. Don’t forget Hartt and Marymount Manhatten as well…

rdalenorth: please keep us updated on Cortland. My D went there about 5 years ago and had many issues and left. I would be happy to hear that things have improved there!

Julliard does not offer a program in MT. Of the other US schools you have listed, I believe they are all in the $50,000+ per year range (tuition, room and board). and they are all extremely competitive to be accepted to, with the exception of possibly AMDA. I’m not really familiar w/ AADA but I think they do offer a BA and tuition is in the $30,000 range plus room and board. Circle in the Square offers a 2-year certificate program, but not a BA or BFA. Your list includes some very good programs, but is just not well-rounded enough. There is fierce competition for a spot in any of those programs, with some schools only accepting 10-15 students. You are really limiting your possibilities and your chances with this list and might consider expanding it. I am not at all familiar with the Canadian programs, so maybe you are using those as your safeties.

To respond again I said I was expanding the net so any school not directly in NYC is not in NYC ill live & deal if I get the privilege of being accepted & for tuition AMDA, NYU & BOCO are all under 35,000 which is still ok for me & even then cost isn’t the biggest factor for me I’m just trying to get through auditions, see who wants me & then handle it. Also the schools with no MT programs I’m aware of I said if push came to shove I was ready to compromise with a Theater program.

Sounds good. Just remember that the 35,000 is just tuition; With room and board and other fees, at least BoCo ends up being closer to $55,000- I’m not sure about the others but I think it is similar in cost.

1 and #6 on your list are the same- Tisch is at NYU.

TheatreG, as someone else pointed out, Tisch is NYU. Also, the tuition is significantly more than $35,000. For the coming year, it will be $21,706 per term, so double that for the year, plus $1131 registration fee per term, service fees $850. This is only tuition. Housing at the dorm my D lived at freshman year is now $14492/yr. The required mealplan is an additional $3860/yr. So you are well into the $60,000s for Tisch before you even consider spending $, transportation to and from NYC, plus transportation for getting around in the city, incidentals, seeing shows, etc. It’s a very expensive school and my guess is that there are others on your list that may be close to those figures, too. Carnegie Mellon was more expensive than Tisch back when my D was a student.

Important things to consider when compiling your list. I’ve seen too many students work so hard to apply and audition at schools, be thrilled to get accepted, and then realize that there is no way they or their families can afford the costs. Keep reading and learning about the various programs. If you’d like to email me about the process, feel free to do so. You can click on my username and the dropdown menu will allow you to click on an email button. There aren’t too many Canadian students here on CC who are interested in theatre but having been through the process with my D, and having many actor friends and family members in the business, on both sides of the border, I can give you another perspective, and would be happy to help.

After the audition dust settled, and we figured the costs for tuition minus scholarships, Tisch went from being the most expensive on our list to somewhere down in upper middle. Scholarships can sometimes change up all the numbers.

That’s true, classicalbk, but Tisch does not offer scholarships to international students.

And Ithaca is located in Ithaca, NY and is only an hour from Syracuse University. They do a back to back audition weekend at the end of January (at least they did last yr). Might make sense to do them both then.

To respond no Tisch is one side & there’s also the Steinhardt school within NYU that is seperate from Tisch & thank you all for your help! Ill for sure keep updated on how the whole process is going along.

Unless something has changed recently, I do not believe NYU will allow you to apply to BOTH Tisch and Steinhardt (or any two Schools at NYU). You have to pick one or the other.

Kat is right. You 'll have to choose between Tisch and Steinhardt and only apply to one. One is a BFA in Drama and the other is a Bach. of Music. NYU only allows applicants to apply to one of their colleges.
