Best SAT prep classes

I have taken the SAT twice already and got a decent score the second time: M: 720 W: 750 CR: 650 however i can't seem to get my CR up and math im just mad about bc it seemed like the april sat math was much harder than all of my practice tests taht i did well on. anyways....I've decided to take an sat prep class over the summer to boost my CR score. any suggestions on what class is the best??? all i kno is princeton review and kaplan

You already have above a 2100. I would not waste the $1000 on a class that covers all three areas, since your math and writing are in incredible shape. If you want to get math and writing up to high 700's / 800, just use the blue book and practice, or buy the online Collegeboard course with additional practice tests. For critical reading, I would suggest private tutoring in just critical reading because you will not receive individualized instruction with PR / Kaplan and you will feel it is a waste of time because only 1/3 of the class is critical reading. In addition, just practice. They become easier when you practice.

God bless AP English Language. This course helped me get better at CR. I suggest you take it if you still have time. Otherwise, drill the hell out of the blue book.

Testmasters is really helpful for the CR and Writing portions. It's not in every major city, though. You can check on their website. www.testmasters.com It's also less expensive than Kaplan or PR.

If you're scoring 2100+, prep classes won't do you much good. They are good for the 1900 score boost up to the 2100. So my recommendation for a higher CR score is to read read read as much as possible over the summer. I took a PR class, and a class freshman year that where a private tutor used the Kaplan/PR strategies. My CR score remained stagnant to about 620-660 for the practice tests I took. THe first time I took the real SAT in Oct, I received a score of 680 CR. The 2nd time in April I received a 770 CR (I changed my strategy this time). Classes are really geared for those scoring below 650CR (or generally for students with a lack of motivation to study on their own).

What I did in between Oct. - April 1st:

-Read alot of news online.... i.e. BBC News, Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post. (daily or every other day basis)
-Read magazines: Newsweek, Time
-Read alot for debate: theory... legal stuff... philosophy
-Read a couple Hemingway books
-What I did the week before the April test:
-Took 6 grammar practice test sections from the collegeboard book
-1 critical reading practice test section (I know, I probably should have done more)
-and about 4 math practice test sections
-reviewed some random vocab
-got enough sleep the night before the test

Of course, not alll of the above may help you raise your CR score, but it did work well for me.

I DEFINITELY suggest Elite's SAT program they hire proffesors to teach the course they also teach AP's but thats too late now, anyways I personally think it was REALLY beneficial, u go 3 times a week one day u take a multiple choice test, and an essay, and the second day u take a math class and they assign homework from every section of the math (probability etc) and the third day u do critical reading and writing, and the critical reading class makes u learn 100 words a week from their packet and if u dont' pass the test they make u stay and write the words until u pass the test.

lol give me a break. down with that korean sat program. on their freakin flyer, they have a list of high scores with all these students talking about how great elite is. I noticed they consider a 2200 a high score. just get blue book. use the hikaru2005 method of sat prep. do each section timed. review with the sat online course. you are set. well it costs almost 80 dollars. a bit expensive for a stupid test, but I think it is worth the money. 2390 here thanks to my super method. well I got 213 on the psat without studying. I studied around 60 hours total with teh online course and blue book. by the way, I don't read except for manga. I also read the chinese subtitles when I watch chinese dramas. You really don't need to bother with reading junk like the christian science monitor or wall street journal. well I do read the electronics ads on the news sometimes.

hikaru, why do you consider csmonitor junk? i'm interested in your actual reasons

well, I really have nothing against cs monitor. Its just that I feel reading the newspaper to prepare for the sat is a "junk" method.

Your scores are High enough that most "prep" classes aren't going to do a whole lot. Most of the "prep" classes tell you "how" to take the test and only improves your scores if you continuously get 1 thing wrong, such as....main idea questions or stuff like that.

Personally, I'd pick out what you think you have trouble on and just work at it by yourself.
