Which schools are the most tolerant of gays ? (obviously almost all faculty at all schools will be tolerant I am referring to the student body here mostly).

Is SPS intolerant due to its Christian heritage ?

Is Andover tolerant due to its liberalism ?

Good question... as a student w/ gay parents, I'd like to know.

I DID feel a very conservative vibe at SPS, so of all of them I'd think they'd be the most likely.

Andover and Exeter on the hand seemed VERY tolerant of all types of people.

Bottom line, I think most/all TSAO schools, due to their huge size and reputations, can be nothing BUT tolerant. A small day school in central Texas - maybe not so much, lol.

I am a senior at SPS and I have given tours to several families with gay applicants or gay parents. In my opinion, SPS is very supportive of gays and every year a few kids come out and retain the same friends they had before and even make lots of new ones. Four mornings a week we meet in chapel and seniors give chapel speeches. One or two a year will involve someone coming out or speaking about their experiences as a homosexual. Of course, there are those who are intolerant, people still use "gay" to say that something sucks, but you're going to find that at any high school. The former head of the Humanities department, a former priest/member of the Chaplaincy, the current organist, a dance teacher, a drama teacher, and a chemistry teachers are all gay/lesbian. So if you're considering a boarding school with a strong gay/lesbian community, definitely give SPS a look. Btw, SPS is extremely liberal, which is why I'm surprised you got a very conservative vibe at SPS. In our mock election, 92% of students voted Obama and only 2 faculty/staff members voted McCain. Of course, SPS is full of "old money" students so in that sense it is conservative, but it is overwhelming Democratic and liberal. If you have anymore questions about life at SPS, feel free to PM me or just write them on this thread and I'll get back to you.

I am a gay parent of a student at Andover....everyone has been incredibly warm and welcoming to us. Andover also has a very active Gay Straight Alliance that presents a variety of interesting programs.

Nothing against any other schools.....don't have experience to report. But, if you are gay or have gay parents, I think that Andover would be great. Plus, I would love to meet some other gay Andover parents. If you have more questions, feel free to send me a PM.

in my opinion, nickel, of course kids are democratic and choose to be a democrat at their age. When i hear of the word democrat, i hear freedom and what do all kids want? freedom and lots of it. but it doesnt really matter right now when what they think doesnt do an impact. it only matters when they become older and decide to vote. by then im thinking they'll change to republicans and become more conversative. right now i am a radical democrat thinking freedom freedom freedom but in my gut i have this creeping feeling that when my choosing party actually matters, ill be voting for republicans. if youve ever read fast food nation (you should) i have a feeling that ill be that supervisor at the animal plant who is an equality for all, fair pay, liberal democrat who later turns into a radical, money grabbing, cheap labor, conservative republican (dont remember his name).

im just saying that i am currently a democrat but when what i think actually matters, by then ill become a conservative republican (just like my mom, which makes me cringe, i do not wanna be anything like her)

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, Senay. What is it exactly about you that makes you a democrat? Why are you one now? Do you honestly think your opinion is ever going to matter when you obviously have no idea what you're saying? You do not automatically grow out of being a democrat just by having a birthday. Wait, they're not actually like birthday parties, you know that right? Like with the hats and the cake? Seriously though, crack open a book for the sake of intelligent people everywhere. I honestly can not process what you said. Every time I try, I feel like I'm going to cry.

no im saying that my opinion (democrat or republican) currently doesnt matter because i have no say in real polls, meaning i cant vote. but by the time my voice actually matters, ill turn into a republican just like my mom
