I am looking into colleges with great Pre-Physical Therapy or 2/3+3 PT program in the Delaware Valley. I'm a 3.8/4.2 GPA, 2000 SAT, I take all of the most rigorous classes my HS offers, and I am volunteering at a Med Center on weekends.

So far, I've noticed that Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia has programs with Saint Joseph's University, Villanova, Elizabethtown, Immaculata, and Muhlenberg, where you can receive your BS at the home institution, while moving directly onto a DPT path.

I've also looked at Drexel and Penn, and though I have a sister starting at Penn, I don't think I could get in.

And I've noticed University of Delaware has an incredible graduate PT program ranking--#2 in the nation.

I've looked at Arcadia University, which has a graduate program ranked #14. Does anyone have experience with these schools for PT programs?

Thank you so much for your help.

I do not have a child on this path, so I don’t look into in depth, but Delaware and Arcadia are the best known area programs based on my friends research. Friend’s family spoke to over 20 working in the PT filed.

With your stats, Arcadia would offer a great deal in merit. Arcadia is very well respected in the field, esp if you wish to stay in the Philly area. You would be in a great position to earn their full tuition award (which increases as tuition increases). They like to see you want them, so go visit, interview, sit it on a class…Arcadia stands out to me because they are small. You have hands on practice early on and they do a good job of alerting students to internships.

E-Town and Muhlenberg may also be a nice financial deal.

Have you spoken with those at the Med Center for opinions?

Many of the small LACs known for “pre-med” also see a decent portion of students go on to the DPT path.

If you are a NJ resident, Stockton state is worth a look. If you are OOS, I don’t think Stockton is worth the cost.

Decide why exactly you want PT. Friend’s child, after speaking with many in the field, determined Athletic Training was more in line with his career goals.

Longhaul, this is terrific information; thank you so much!!
And I appreciate your statement about being sure to understand exactly why one is traveling down a specific allied-health path. Thank you for really making me think.
I’m very interested in rehabilitation for the elderly, stroke victims, special needs, though as you can tell by my userid, I am crazy about futbol. I’ve had family members go down BSN Nursing pathways, and after spending time with stroke survivors, and specifically with a mentor, felt that perhaps this was a good career choice.
Arcadia does look exciting! I hope to visit that side of the city this spring. Your input was very much appreciated LongHaul. Thank you very much once again!
