hi abstraction215, may i know which school are you from? thanks for stating the top illustration schools..may i know which ones are hard to get in? i have a diploma in digital media design and am contemplating to major in BA degree in illustration but unsure of which school i should go..thinking of sva

thanks in advance.

SAIC doesn't have an illustration department, so I don't know where you are doing your research.

No mention of Massachusetts College of Art and Design? An excellent education for the money. Half the price of RISD! It's a great school and right in Boston near lots of other colleges. Two of my children attended the school and the third just might as well. He's also looking into illustration. The Hartford Art School at University of Hartford is another place to check out. If you have good grades and top SAT scores you automatically get a huge merit scholarship. It has a beautiful campus and the art center recently expanded.

Daughter is at RISD in illustration. Last semester had the teacher who taught Shepards Fairy (artist who did Obama Hope poster in red/blue) . Said he was hard, hard, hard, but very quality teaching.

Abstraction--I'm stunned to see that Art Center College of Design isn't in your top ten. I can't imagine a more professionally oriented art school.

I agree with wrist…not sure where abstraction is getting his info, but Art Center College of Design has without a doubt the best illustration program in the world. I did 2 years of research on this prior to choosing a school (and I’m only a freshman now so the research is very current) and theres absolutely no competition. hands down Art Center.

and I think RISD is #2.

Another school to consider is Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus Ohio. It has been well regarded for a long time in both the Design and Fine Arts professions. In the last ten years the facilities, offerings and programs have been vastly expanded. Columbus has a very good arts support community and is a fairly safe environment. And, comparatively, both the cost of college and the cost of living are very moderate.

just found this forum and I too have a D interested in Illustration and we have also thought of all the colleges mentioned here but did not see anyone mention AIB @ Lesley. Does anyone have any info or input about that school?
thank you

Very helpful list!! I see this is an old thread - anyone have any updates on their student’s choices or experiences?
