Best schools in DC and Philly areas

What are the best privates in the DC and Philly areas? I live in north jersey and go to school in NYC, so I'm asking this question mostly out of curiosity.

In Alexandria, Virginia there is Episcopal. Alexandria is like 5 minutes away from DC.

My favorite four boarding schools in the Philadelphia region are (in no order):

The Hill School - Pottstown, PA
Westtown School - West Chester, PA
George School, Newtown, PA
Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA

^ I’m not limiting it to boarding schools. For example, Collegiate/Spence in NY are just as good as top boarding schools.

IIRC, St. Albans, Georgetown Prep, and Landon are good schools in the DC area.

You didn’t ask, but I can also tell you that Baltimore has excellent private schools. Gilman, Boys Latin, McDonogh, and St. Pauls come to mind.

Sidwell Friends in DC.

For the kind of kids I see on this site, I would include the following (in the Philly/NJ area)
BS: Peddie, Lawrenceville, Hill and Blair
DS: Philly Burbs—Penn Charter, Haverford, Episcopal Academy, Germantown Academy, Sacred Heart, Baldwin and Shipley
Philly/Bucks County/NJ: Stuart Country Day School, Princeton Day, and Pingry

There are plenty of others, but these are the schools that I would definitely consider. However, I was not a fan of the PK-12 day schools that I mentioned above for my daughter. I felt that the PK-12 scenario is a tough social web to crack for students entering in the later grades—again, this is just my opinion—so I avoided day schools for that reason.

A couple of Quaker schools have been mentioned. I am a Quaker, but I do not believe a Quaker school is right for everyone. In the end, I didn’t see George or Westtown really working out for my oldest daughter (even though Dad boarded at GS). I do not want to start a war (ha-ha–I am Quaker), so I will keep my opinions on this subject quiet. My youngest is a different story and I am thinking that George may be the best fit for her! I am hoping that they may think so as well.

I forgot St. Andrews in DE

Also in DC area, Woodberry Forest (boys) and Madiera (girls). Potomac School in McLean is a popular choice for coed day. TJHSST is considered the best public in the country and is on par with the best schools anywhere.
