schools in nj, ct or dc

Hi,
my mom might get a job in nj, ct or dc, so we'd move from mass to one of those places. I'm graduating, so this wouldn't affect me so much as it would my siblings (7th and 9th grades next year). What private schools, boarding or not (they wouldn't board more than 1.5 hours away), would you recommend in these areas. I have a friend in NJ who said the top schools around where we'd go are kent place for girls, delbarton for boys, pingry for coed, or lawrenceville for boarding. does anyone know about these schools? she also said there were some good schools in the princeton area, but those would only work if they were boarding. I'm not sure what town we'd live in, but we've looked at chatham and millburn, nj, new canaan, ct, and a couple dc suberbs in VA, but a school either in or out of the city would be ok

Pingry in NJ is pretty good, also, Montclair Kimberly.

Both chatham and millburn have great public schools, but the houses are OLD and expensive. Princeton High is on the lists of basically any ranking. Lawrenceville of course is a top tier boarding school. I think Lawrenceville is your best bet.

New Canaan Country School is an excellent day school. It goes through 9th grade – grades 7 - 9 are the Upper School. Other day schools in that area of CT: Convent of the Sacred Heart (girls, preK - 12), Greenwich Academy (girls, K- 12), Brunswick (boys, K- 12), St. Lukes (co-ed, 5 - 12), Greens Farms Academy (co-ed, K-12), Fairfield Prep (boys,
9 - 12), & King-Low & Heywood Thomas (co-ed, K-12).

to add to Blinker’s list near New Canaan - if you were to board, Choate and Taft are about 45 - 60 minutes from New Canaan. Hopkins (in New Haven) is an excellent day school that kids commute to from New Canaan - there are vans that take kids - it is about 45 minutes away. Also, Masters School in Dobbs Ferry is boarding or day and is also about 45 minutes away.

If you are talking about schools for this Sept., the day schoools you mentioned are probably filled. and then if they apply next year for 8th or 10th, it is unlikely they will get in since it isn’t a common entry point. (someone would have to give up their spot) The public schools in that area of NJ offer as much or more–it might be the best option.

I live about 5 minutes from the aforementioned Pingry. When I applied two years ago, I applied for and got into Pingry and Delbarton. From those two, I would recommend, Delbarton (that’s where I went for a year).

I did another round, this time with boarding schools. I highly recommend Lawrenceville - it’s an excellent school. (I go to Andover however).

PEDDIE SCHOOL :] in nj. great boarding school an hour from both nyc and phile, and like fifteen from princeton.
