Its still information for other people.

Please do tell how it is so?

Washington and Lee is a GREAT school. Very southern, VERY conservative...almost went there.

well, maybe someone else wants to learn about southern schools or someone wants to talk about souther schools...

Also, the OP only posted this YESTERDAY, maybe he hasnt come back yet (granted it was very early in the morning) or hasnt needed to respond as people are still talking and giving info...

when have you seen the other threads because the OP isnt there...I see threads come back weeks after the OP is dead and gone.

Carolina's #1 by far

Go Tarheels!!

bandit_tx, my dad lives in Dallas and pointed the college out to me a few years ago. I wasn't sure if that was the name, though. And I recall getting the impression that it was a snobby school because of the students' looks, cars, attitudes, etc. Also because my dad knows people whose kids go there.

If you want southern then you want mercer or rhodes.

Duke-by far.

par72, you're totally wrong. Carolina's #1, just like unccadet said.

Go Tarheels!!

Lol Tarheels. Silly UNC-ers. :)

Vandy, fools! :-)

RICE!!!!!!!!!!!!1 no doubt about it.

man...some ppl on this website have sticks up their youknowwhat.

anyway, I guess it depends what you mean by "southern"....southern as in farms and funny accents or southern as in climate. You'll find Miami is in the south but is much more like New York cultually, and is not like a city you'd find in Georgia or Alabama. Florida mostly consists of northerners (with no accents) from central florida on down. you get more redneck the further north in FL you go.

anyway, maybe I'm partial but my fav. southern school would have to be the University of Florida. Academically, it is a better school than UM (esp. if you go Honors), the social scene and football games are some of the best, its an hour from the beach, and while it is kind of backwoods FL, its not too rednecky if thats not your style.

what about lsu and auburn? would u consider them, if not the best, good schools?

LSU and Auburn are state Us, which are all basically the same in the South. They're not bad by any means, but usually UF and UGa are considered the better deep south state schools.

I guess for clarification purposes I should say I don't consider Texas or North Carolina and Virginia "Deep South"

yea, i guess lsu and auburn aren't elite enough for people on this board. lol. shouldn't have never asked.

Prestige wise

Duke

Rice

Vanderbilt

Emory

Socially...

I would say (for prestige):

Duke

Emory

Vanderbilt

Rice

Duke is by far the best school in the southern US. Go to Duke if you can get in; it will definitely quench your desire to study in the south while not having to experience the hicks that live down there.
