They are not as well edited as SAT study books. Use more than one book.

Yes! ^^^ going to multiple sources will help you tremendously.

Vocab, I believe, is the hardest area to improve. I think it’s the least productive in terms of spending time studying, unless you can learn words fast.

Nope, that’s CR. Vocab’s the easiest area to improve, all it takes is brute memorization.

I’m better at–and prefer–process to memorization. I’d rather learn how to do something, a math problem, for instance, than memorize quick facts.

Process is quite a bit harder to grasp, and critical reading is without doubt one of the hardest concepts to understand.

And you’re memorizing the process of doing that math problem. :)

And memorization is just work. If you put in the time (which can be a lot) then you can improve.

@MrNephew Do you have a link to the quizlet list by any chance? Also, if you don’t mind me asking, did you see a lot of the words you studied on the vocab and how long did you study them? I did hundreds of flashcards and only noticed that two of the words from my flashcards were actually on the test!

Well, there’s only a minute number of vocabulary words on a test, and thousands of words to study. That’s pretty much why you study a lot, so as to prepare for as many possibilities as you possibly can.

Rumack’s SSAT Preparation Workbook for the Middle Level is actually extremely helpful for both levels (disclaimer- I helped write it). I’ve tutored dozens of SSAT students, both Middle and Upper Level, and the strategies for the Verbal, Reading, and Writing sections are relevant across the board. The math also includes step by step lessons in many concepts the Upper students need to know as well, including advanced geometry and algebra.
My daughter is using IVY Global’s math book to review math facts because it’s her weak point. For the other books, she only uses included 1~2 Upper Level SSAT practice tests, which I cut out for her easier management. Remains of the cut out book sections were unnecessary so I recycled them.
