I’ve taken the SAT twice and got 1050 in June which I’m not that happy about. Tho I did raise my score with the sat score and essay (which I’m not doing any more), I am taking any advice to what could be a pretty good plan to study for the he October SAT next month.
I’m in my senior year and I am fortunate to have two free periods every other day and one period free the other day, around when school ends. So I’m looking to study around that time period which should be about 1 hour and 30 min.
My biggest concern is math since that score remained the same and I would like that to increase along with my Reading score.
Also how long should I be ideally spending on each question to allow myself enough time to answer and not waste time? Because for some reason I screwed up that and fell behind the first reading portion.
For reading, generally you should be using about 13 min per section (there are five sections). Some passages will be easier for you depending on what subjects you’re good at, and some passages will be harder. I tended to spend around three minutes reading and around eight minutes answering the passage’s questions, so I was going, on average, a minute per question. I finished the test with about eight min left so I checked my answers.
If you’re a slow reader, you might take around five minutes to read the passage. But my advice to you is this: don’t spend more than twelve or thirteen min per passage. If you haven’t finished the passage, move on to the next one (if you bring an analog watch it will help you keep track of time).
For math, you should get a firm grasp on the foundations of algebra and geometry, which is a heavy bulk of the questions. Review books or Khan Academy should help you get this grip on the foundations. And a lot of the SAT questions are designed to trick you, so make sure to spend time reading the question carefully. It’ll be worth it.
I suggest you practice khan academy and Uworld free sat and learn from mistakes, read explanations. Every week don one college board official practice test.
