So with college more or less out of the way I need to start focusing on finding a summer job before college. What do you guys recommend as the best summer jobs for a high school grad?

I've been working at my parent's restaurant for the past 4-5 years and I've gotten pretty sick of it. While the pay is good, getting yelled at on a daily basis by customers and co-workers gets pretty annoying.

lifeguarding, if you’re strong in swimming. i love it, though the sun can get pretty hot at times. i don’t tan well. there are regular lifeguard trainings and review sessions over the summer, and the people you work with will be chill and around your age. you would need a 2-year certification though. classes are held from january to march, depends on your area. i know for my pool’s summer season, they start hiring in february.

hollister/abercrombie sales associate. my best friend worked there for a summer. while you are strongly encouraged to buy their work uniform (totals ~100 a season), you’re not required to. there’s a stringent dress code like no excessive hair products, brightly-colored/dark nail polish, black/dark eyeliner, etc…basically, they don’t want you looking like a Goth. you get a 20% employee discount and first dibs on new merch. you get to hang out with hot people…it’s like lifeguarding.

I like working at my own school over the summer, actually. Maybe you could ask around and see if the admins offer jobs for students over the summer.
