Best SUNY school for English/Creative Writing?

I was wondering which SUNY campuses have the strongest English and/or Creative Writing programs. Binghamton? New Paltz? Purchase? or any other campuses that I might be missing?

I've heard Geneseo has a good english department. I know a friend of mine most likely going there.

Binghamton is well known for everything, especially business and science. I don't know about their english department, but a good school on the whole. And, I might add, I'm very biased because I'm most likely attending in the fall!

I don't know about NP or Purchase, so I can't help there. I hope I've helped some.

Perfected: Thank you. My D is still a Sophomore but she's starting to think about which schools to visit over the next year/year & a half. Geneseo is a possibility, and Binghamton is a very likely visit destination. Speaking of Binghamton, congratulations on your acceptance and good luck this coming fall.:)

I second the Binghampton + Geneseo notions.

I believe all the schools you mentioned have good English depts. It all depends on what sort of environment you're looking for because they are very different.
It's good that you plan to visit. I'm sure that will help with the decision.

Thanks for the additional feedback, asdf & LilyMoon(good luck to your son at NP). I agree that visiting will give her the best feel for the colleges.

Thanks for the good wishes Momonthehill. :) Good luck with your visits. Keep us posted on how things go.

momonthehill - Thanks. And I second lilymoon's advice.

If your son wants a big state university, with the opportunities, and social life available on campus, Binghamton is a good fit. However, if you're looking for a smaller liberal arts college in a more rural area of New York, Geneseo is your choice.

They're both very good schools. It's the university/college thing that was the deciding factor for me. =)

I'm an English major at Geneseo and I can honestly say it is one of the strongest departments at the school, up there with the education and science programs. Our president, Christopher Dahl, is also an English faculty member, and our honors program is headed by a pretty well-known Dante scholar, Ron Herzman.

Geneseo has a very strong English department.
