Urbanflop I agree with you that Andover or Exeter’s curriculum is by far better but I also have to admit that the IB is an exceptional program and that it does efficiently prepare students for college.

My school only offers IB classes, so I’ll have no choice if I go.

Shrlye- What BSs are you applying to ?

Ruby, most Andover students do not take three classes in the same subject, but it’s against no rules. A girl in my French 520 class also take Arabic and Chinese, for example. This is not common, but it’s not uncommon, if that makes sense. There are diploma requirements here: for example, students need to complete precalculus to graduate and take an art, etc. But the fact is that tight programs that stick to all five core subjects just don’t satisfy the whole student body. Take one legendary kid here at Andover - he’s on the US physics team and he committed to MIT his lower (sophomore) year. Consequently, he skipped upper year, is now a senior, and will be attending MIT next fall. Can you imagine forcing a kid like that to take math and science classes? That would be ludicrous - he’s literally a genius. He’s not the only kid like that at Andover - PA tends to attract kids like that.

I’m not saying the IB is a bad program for the majority of average/a little above average students; what I am saying is that the IB simply isn’t a good fit for Andover or schools like it. I don’t mean this in a cocky or pretentious way at all, but - restrictive programs like the IB that cater solely to average and a little above average students simply aren’t good enough for schools like Andover. Classes here are tough, so don’t think we slack because we have fewer requirements than IB schools. I think our standardized test scores and college matriculations should verify that statement.

TomTheCat said what I wanted to say but much more eloquently. If I don’t get into BS, I’ll be in IB… I can just see myself sleeping with my proccess journal. I think it’s encouraged Yuck. But in reality there are far worse ways to end up than in IB it just really doesn’t suit me. From what I’ve seen IB is brlliant for very hardworking, diligent kids with decent intelligence. While I can posses these skills when I must they aren’'t my strengths.

Well BlueRaven if I don’t get into to Andover this year(which I doubt that I will), next year I am going to apply from 6-10 schools as a repeat freshman…

Wort case scenario then we’ll both be in pre-IB at youknowwhere lol. My brother teases me and says when ever I do something stupid “tsk, Tsk. That’s not good enought for prep school. PS for you”… It’s a decent school but I may reapply next year if I don’t get in.

I totally agree and get your point, Tom. I was just responding to the lack of a well-rounded education that one would more likely get under the British system. You really can’t compare that, or IB, with schools like Andover. Although I’d have to say that you’d get a slap here with what you said about IB. It is still a highly regarded program and people who do IB here are viewed as superior/smarter partly because it is rare and few schools have it.

True ruby. People treat the IB like the wholey grail being sekected for it is a big deal, so prehaps I’m to quick to dismiss.

I mean I wouldn’t mind doing the IB but I would prefer to do a curriculum like Andover or Exeter.

Bump…10char

Bump… Let’s get back to talking about Andover everybody :D

I wanted to know how weekend passes go…I know it’s pretty frequent to go to Boston with teachers and students for a day trip, but what if you wanted to stay a weekend in Boston, visiting Harvard or MIT or a school of the sort? How would one go about doing that?

I am not 100 % sure since I do not go there (hopefully next year I will )lol but I do know that there are specific days during the school year to visit Colleges and if you have any questions message TomTheCat, he goes there and he knows literally everything about Andover .

Even the secre passages? :p

Hey swissbrit, I’m still trying to work out who you are at school. I’m failing :D

Haha lol I did not go today … I might tell you March 10th if I get accepted to Andover xD

Are you sick? I didn’t feel like going but the county gets mad when you miss more than 5 days of school! I’ve missed 2 so far so im keeping them in reserve.

what’s 10char…?

CC won’t let you send a message if it’s under 10 characters. So to make the required amount you add ‘10 char’ to your message.

yeah the 60 second rule and the 10char rule is so annoying.
