Best time to fill out FAFSA

i heard that you get most financial aid filling out the FAFSA form early. does this mean that it's best to submit the estimated FAFSA early, or the "real" one, as in the real values on your tax returns?

NOW!!! The reason is … there are priority filing dates at many schools. For example, the school where I work uses date of receipt when awarding aid. Those who file by the priority deadline & complete verification by a given date if selected for verification will be assured of getting the best possible aid package for their financial situation. Those who file later will most likely receive less grant aid. After a certain date, all institutional grant funding & federal SEOG funding is gone. What they might have received had they filed earlier is no longer available for students. So, again … file now. Update later. Just remember that aid packages can & do change if the estimates weren’t spot-on.

As early as possible!!

i did the fafsa, but the “estimated” one. is there an ideal date to do the “real” fafsa after my parents have filed their tax returns?

Best time to fill out FAFSA--

after drinking heavily of the adult beverage of your choice ;-)

I don’t recommend drinking heavily before doing the FAFSA. What happens is, people make mistakes (ie saying that their annual income is $4,000,000 per year instead of $40,000) and come on here screaming about how high their EFC is and that they can’t believe a semi-retired homeless dog walker/pet psychic is expected to cough up $99,999 per semester to send their kid to a community college. It’s very embarrassing and strange and quite unnecessary! :D

Fill out the FAFSA as early as possible and make corrections as needed. Just keep abreast of each school’s requirements; they are often far ahead of the federal deadline and if you wait too long you get low priority on aid from schools whose deadlines you missed.

Question: “What was your income in 2009?”

Answer: “On a scale of 1 to 10, my income is SOOOOOOO DRUNK!!!”
