Best to have an essay for the supplement?

What is the best thing to do for the supplement? An essay? What else CAN you do?

William & Mary - And the Best Conga Line Award goes to...

Be creative. You could do an essay, poem, collage, video, short story...

One d recycled an assignment from her 11th grade English class. She'd had to produce her own version of a page from a current magazine. She chose "The New Yorker" and included an essay about her (small) place in the Hollywood dream factory as an employee at the local cineplex, a short poem about a beehive, and a sketch of a pair of flip flops, using the New Yorker's layout, font, etc. I'd be surprised if anyone else submitted something similar, which I think is what the adcoms are looking for. Still, her sisters were also accepted, and they submitted the standard 5-paragraph essay -though the essays were kind of out there re subject matter and type of humor.

I've seen a few W & M optional submissions on youtube, which are neat. (I'd post some links, but I think we aren't supposed to on CC.) I suggest being as "you" as possible.

Would it be a bad idea to draw a self portrait using photoshop? Graphic design is one of my main hobbies.

I'd say that sounds like a good idea if it can show your creative side - and also if your common app essay shows good writing skills, since the adcoms very definitely want to see that, as well.

You can do anything at all as long as it's good. If you do something you're not quite sure about and it isn't good, then rethink it.

"Would it be a bad idea to draw a self portrait using photoshop? Graphic design is one of my main hobbies."

i actually did something like that--i'm really interested in graphic design as well, so i actually made a background for a sonnet i wrote in french in photoshop... and then i wrote a bit around that to kind of explain...

I actually mixed up my essays for the App and the supp. ]:

But it turned out okay, just a week of panic attack and drafting my essay a million times.
