Best UC for communications majors?

I agree. & then there's other people who get into other majors with lower GPA's :(

Oh I know!!

I know a few people who have been admitted to UCLA with lower GPA's. Linguistics last year with a 3.4 and a History major with a 2.9, I think.

yeah even though they say they wont look at your app, i know plenty of people that have gotten in (from sb) previous years with lower gpa's so dont lose hope! and i knowwww i was only looking at berkeley requirements (much lower as you all probably know) and wasnt really considering la at the time, and then saw the whole 3.9 thing afterwards and was just like oh c r a p!

Statistically speaking, I believe Berkeley has a higher admission rate for mass comm that UCLA does for comm studies. Interesting.

As I am becoming more realistic about my slim chances of getting into LA or Cal, I find myself torn between UCSB and UCSD. They seem like two extremes. I'm not really interested in mass media so much. I'd prefer more of a theoretical approach emphasizing intercultural/interpersonal communication. Does anyone know which UC would be best in this case?

Yes, I agree we should keep this thread alive for Communications majors. I mean, there are like 3498572 threads just for UCSD admits, so why can't we have one for our major? hah.

My stats-
GPA: 3.68
Units: 70+ semester units (I was a nursing major for 2 years, then switched)
Essay: meh, I wrote them Nov 1st.
ECs: work with a media production company, a small amount of volunteer work

Accepted: UCSB, San Diego State, Cal State Long Beach
Waiting: USC, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton (will probably be my backup, but they are taking forever to process my transcript eek), UCSD

Einna, why didn't you apply to Berkeley!?!
You would have had a great shot getting in.

killer22: actually, lol I did... but I never include it in my lists because I highly doubt I'll get in.
PS. grats on your SB acceptance... finally!! :]

hoorah for ucsb comm majors!! is anyone going to one of their transfer days in may?? if so, which one: may 16 or may 30?

p.s. i'm excited because they have some special activities on those days for comm majors. nerd

byebyesfstate...

hey i'm comm major too and got iinto sb. i didn't know they were going to have activities for com majors on gaucho transfer friday. i'm goign to the one on may 9th.

what activities do u know of?

i'm in the same boat as the last two posters, probably will sttend sb, also of thinking of starting in the summer, i think pre comm have to take com 1 and they only offer the 6 week course i think as i check the schedule, no 3 week course. Let us know what happens in the activities on the 9th, will probably go on the 30th, is it mandatory?

it's not mandatory, it's only recomended so u can see the campus.. ask some questions and get some answers.. summer program sounds interesting too but i kinda need to save some money for school too.

so u guys like sb better than sd for com?

orozcosg - I recall seeing some information in my acceptance packet about the transfer days and I believe it mentioned 3 or so majors (communication being one of them, and I think psychology was one) that have specific activities or information sessions taking place on the same day. It's definitely a great way to get us all together!

i think i read that sd comm is more towards theater or something

It's more mass oriented.

bump bump bump
