Psychology is my other major that I am seriously considering. So I do wonder which UC has the best psychology program? UCB looks pretty good as always, but I have seen UCLA ranked higher than it before in some rankings. Which university has a better undergraduate degree program? How about UCSB? I am planning on graduate school too, but yeah whichever undergraduate school will best help me get there I would like to know. I am more interested in doing research in psychology more than the clinical side of it, though I will do some studies in clinical too. Comparative psychology and the psychology of altered states of consciousness aka transpersonal psychology.....as well as consciousness in general strong interest m, and I would love to research in this area. Human or animal, though transpersonal would involve much more research in the human area.

UCSD is super big in psychology.

It 's super big in research, look into it. The degrees they offer for psychology are B.S instead of B.A.
so they’re more research and science oriented.

My personal belief was UCLA but according to my honors counselor, it’s actually Irvine. I wanted UCSB until I heard their Psych offices weren’t good, and then UCSD because they were supposed to be great and I didn’t think I had the grades for UCLA. But yeah, apparantly it’s Irvine so that’s my new backup (after UCSD >_>).

How exactly are people forming their undergraduate rankings for specific fields? I’m assuming it’s just based on personal opinion/experience or what they’ve heard.

Most rankings lists put UCB and UCLA as the top in the US in terms of graduate school rankings, usually top 5 or top 10. UCSD’s psych program is a bit below them usually, but still very strong. Cal/UCLA are both very well known for having a strong social science programs. It’s pretty hard to rank undergraduate programs though. Since you are planning on attending graduate school, I would search for a professor who matches your research interests. Some strong research experience matching your field of interest is gonna look a lot better than a slightly more prestigious school to most graduate schools.

Well I do want to get a more holistic understanding of the mind and consciousness as a whole. I am especially interested in the realm of altered/enhanced states of consciousness, mystical consciousness, trance, ect as they seem to be the keys to understanding the mind.

I am more interested in the research side. Consciousness is a major interest of mine. I am also strongly interested in depth psychology, and the various models that have developed to explain mental function (eg freud, especially yung, ect.). I am also considering comparative psychology.
