Hi everyone! So, I was accepted to both UCSB and UCSC! So, I was wondering if you guys can help me on which school has a better program for psychology. My major is psychology, but I'm interested in developmental psychology. Thank you for your help!

I would be better able to help you if you told me about yourself. Some universities are a better fit for some students than others. Is academic ranking your only concern?

Are ucsb and ucsc the only ucs you applied to? Heard ucd and ucsd’s psychology programs are pretty good (albeit behind ucb and ucla). According to ucsc reviews on yelp, its difficult to register for psych classes, so that may be something to consider.

UCSB is ranked substantially higher than UCSC. I don’t think rankings are everything, but if one is a hundred places higher, I think I’d want to know why. According to US News’s graduate program ranking (and I think they have an undergraduate one but you have to pay for it) UCSB is 40 in the nation and I passed UC Riverside at 60something and UCMerced at 141 before I stopped looking for UCSC. In case I missed it you can look for yourself: http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-humanities-schools/psychology-rankings/page+7

UCSB has some really cool stuff going on in the cross disciplinary area of bio psychology. Separately, a professor in psychology there has just won an award for science-changing contributions to the field of psychology http://www.news.ucsb.edu/2014/014018/michael-gazzaniga-named-2015-william-james-fellow

I’m wondering if I’ve missed something about UCSC though.

–

but then I go to the ucsc webpage and find this: http://psychology.ucsc.edu/undergraduate/

so I go to the ucsb webpage to see their webpage for psychology and see this: https://www.psych.ucsb.edu/

and from the UCSB webpage I particularly note the upper right column where it says: "Research Participation

Interested research volunteers can sign up for participation in studies (course credit or pay) through:

Sona Systems" with a hyperlink to sign up.

I like a lot of things about UCSC, for one thing I think it is absolutely beautiful. I was surprised at what I found looking into this in response to your question, frankly.

Thanks for the help guys! Thank for looking up all of that information, collegevetting. Yeah, I just applied to ucsb and ucsc.

I want to get into a good program for psychology that’ll help me get a job later on. I’m also interested in the environments of the school. I’ve lived in Orange County my whole life, so I wanted to go to a school bit away from home. I’m a shy person, but I’ll open up once I know you better. I haven’t really partied that much, so not sure if it’s for me. Hope this helps.
