Best UNC Schools for Education?

My passion is teaching. I LOVE going up to present projects I did for the class! I once turned a 5 minute power point project for history into a 25 minute lecture on the Space Race. Not only that but people really seemed to enjoy my “lectures” as much as I enjoy doing them. I want to teach High School Biology. It was my favorite subject in High School and one of my favorites today. I wanted to teach physics but I’m not doing so great in calculus so physics is a big maybe for me. I’m having a little trouble finding the best colleges for education in NC. I wanted to know some of your opinions on which school I should consider. Here is a list of some of the schools I’ve looked into:

Western Carolina University (Safety)
East Carolina University (Safety)
UNC Charlotte (Safety)
UNC Pembroke (Safety)
UNC Wilmington (Match)
UNC Asheville (Match/Low Reach)
Appalachian State (Match)
NC State (Low Reach/Mid Reach)
Wake Forest (Big Reach)

P.S. I know teaching in North Carolina is cruel and I’m crazy enough to give it a shot.

I know App State has a really good teaching program, and I THINK (could be wrong here) Greensboro also has a decent one. I have also had a teacher who went to UNCW, and I know ECU also has a program but I’m not sure how it compares to other instate publics. To sum all that up, I’m pretty sure the best two education schools in the UNC system are App and Greensboro, with UNCW and ECU being next.

In my opinion, it wouldn’t make sense to go to a private school in NC for teaching. The UNC system is very well respected in the state and there are multiple great education programs.

Good luck!

  1. Appalachian- Aunt went there and loved the teaching program
  2. UNCC- Sister is there and has really enjoyed the teaching program, she is getting a job in UCPS
  3. Wake- I wouldn't go there unless they gave you big scholarship because it could potentially be a lot of loans. However, (i'm bias as I am attending WFU) but I love the school and its rigorous curriculum.
