best universities in your country

In Kazakhstan:

 1. Nazarbayev University(its partner is british UCL)
 2. The Kazakhstan Institute of Management, Economics and Strategic Research
 3. Kazakh-British Technical University
 4. Almaty State Medical University
 5. Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi

Argentina:

Political Science & IR:
1- Universidad de San Andr

“Kenya - no idea what so ever -.- just moved here. i’ve heard most people go to the US/UK.”

Don’t know if ‘most’ is the word you should be using but yeah a few people do go abroad.Anyways ,the top for me are.

1.University of Nairobi-one of the best institutions in Africa
2.Strathmore University-excellent business program
3.United States International University-international relations/social sciences

I identify myself as a person of various countries.

Australian National University is the best in Australia
Harvard is known to be the best in the US (I could debate this fact though)
Seoul National University is recognised to be by far the best uni in Korea

And I’m not telling you which country’s passport I have!

The Netherlands has only one private business university: Nyenrode Business University. Due to lots of cost cutting the quality/reputation/international recognition of this university decreased enormously. Nowadays the following universities are recognized as top:

Rotterdam School of Management (within Business)

University of Leiden (oldest university)

University of Utrecht

University of Amsterdam

In the Netherlands there isn’t really ‘1/2/3 best university’ in general, because the quality of all the universities are high. Nothing is really prestigous to enter.

In USA Arizona
University of Arizona
Arizona State University
Northern Arizona University
Arizona State University West Campus

In Indonesia:

University of Indonesia (UI)

Technological University Bandung (ITB) (Our MIT…seriously, the kids are crazy smart)

Gajah Mada University (UGM)

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH)

if you get into the top 2, you must be at least as smart as an ivy league student. But due to limited facility and faculty, the student outcome are always satisfactory.

In India
Engg:
IITs(old)
Bits pilani pilani campus
IIts(new)
Bits pilani goa campus
NITs
COEP
VIT.

business, umm
maybe IIMs

bits and iit entrance examinations have a selection rate of the order of 2%.
about 5 lakh guys give these exams.about 10,000 are selected.

iit jee is considered the toughest entrance examination at the 12+level., in the world.

I’m going to chip in some more opinions about Australian Universities…

Science:
+ANU attracts the largest proportion of Australia’s top science high school graduates into its PhB program (a huge percentage of olympiad team members flock there, as do a lot of NMSS and NYSF participants). It’s also quite good for computational science, and offers degrees in this area.
+USyd has the talented students program, which draws a lot of top students.
+UniMelb doesn’t have much at undergraduate level… but in saying that, it has a superb biomedical research department and unrivalled resources. It would definitely have the best medical program in Australia, although it’s only available at a graduate level.
+Monash has a strong medical program and a good biochemical research department. It also has the Science Scholars Program, which retains a few of the top Victorians who don’t want to move interstate. Good engineering program too.
+UNSW: Good engineering program, good medical program.

Arts:
+ANU for political science. Nothing else can touch it.
+USyd and UniMelb both have pretty good departments… not too sure about the specifics though.
+I wouldn’t go to UNSW or Monash for this…

Music:
+UniMelb/VCA by far, especially because of the location (Melbourne’s the hub of musical activity in Australia) and the ability to be involved with ANAM.

Law:
+ANU and USyd both have excellent programs. UniMelb has a great postgraduate program too.

Commerce:
+UniMelb is very, very strong in economics (3 Nobel Laureates on staff?). There’s also a good actuarial science program.
+ANU.

I’d say ANU’s by far and away the best, but most people only go because they’re lured by the exceptionally elite degrees… or opt for coures like law that have lower cutoffs than in Melbourne or Sydney.

@schrodingerscat i completely agree with you…ANU is by far, the best university in Australia…you need like 38+ IB score to get into a program…it’s requirements are practically the same as the University of Oxford LOL…and i heard they have 4 nobel laureates rather than 3 :stuck_out_tongue: Crazy

Actually, ANU requirements are generally lower for standard degrees because no one wants to live in Canberra - you can come in the top 5% or so and get into a law degree, whereas you usually need to be in the top 0.4% or so for USyd. However, the elite research degrees (such as PhB Arts/Science and CompSci) require sky high scores. ANU definitely attracts a disproportionate amount of the very best Australian students though.

Azerbaijan

1) [url=http://www.ada.edu.az/]Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy/url
2) Khazar University
3) Gafgaz University

USyd gets the best Arts/Law students. UNSW gets a lot of the top Eng students. UTS also does reasonably well in terms of Industrial Design and related areas.

In Pakistan:

Engineering:

1- National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) - by far the best…
2- Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI)
3- Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

Management Sciences:

1- LUMS
2- Institute of Business Management (IBA)
3- NUST

Computer Sciences:

1- FAST
2- NUST
3- GIKI

Liberal Arts:

1- National College of Arts (NCA)
2- Beaconhouse University - not too sure though…

Copenhagen University.
Best university in Scandinavia, top 10 in Europe, top 50 in the world.

Mmmm I think Oslo can give Copenhagen a run for its money.

I know this is a pretty old thread but I wanted to share about Mexican schools. There’s some misinformation in this thread regarding UNAM and ITESM (Tec de Monterrey).

First of all, Mexican public schools are much more selective than private schools. Especially the flagship school of each state, and UNAM and IPN. Private schools are not that selective, you just have to be able to afford them. That doesn’t mean private schools are not good. Well most private schools are indeed bad, but the ones that are actually good are top-ranked nationally.

Now, it is impossible to say “X school is the number one,” as each school has different strenghts and weaknesses. UNAM is the best university in the country for hard sciences and humanities, but it has strong engineering programs also. IPN is considered as the best for engineering, ITESM comes as a close second, but it gives its programs a business oriented focus which is praised by some and hated by others.

Hard sciences (math, physics, chemistry, etc.):

 1. UNAM
 2. Universidad de Guanajuato
 3. Universidad de Guadalajara

Business:

 1. ITAM
 2. ITESM
 3. Universidad Iberoamericana

Engineering:

 1. IPN
 2. ITESM
 3. UNAM

Humanities (law, architecture, etc.):

 1. UNAM
 2. ITAM
 3. Universidad Iberoamericana

Medicine:

 1. UNAM
 2. Universidad La Salle
 3. Universidad de Guadalajara

As you can see, UNAM, ITAM, IPN and ITESM are among the top schools in various areas. If I had to make a top 3, I’d pick UNAM, IPN and ITESM, in no particular order.

There’s also the Mexican equivalent of the Ivy League (unofficial), which I think would be:
ITESM
ITAM
Universidad Iberoamericana
Universidad Panamericana
ITESO
Universidad La Salle

Also, each flagship state university is like a junior UNAM so these schools are very good too, and very selective:
UANL
Universidad de Guadalajara
BUAP
Universidad de Guanajuato
UABC
Universidad de Sonora
UAM
UAEM
