I am looking at Canadian universities..but I have a few questions

Ok, well I live in the United States and I am looking at Canadian Universities because I think Canada is a fantastic country. Although I wouldn’t travel all the way to BC (I live on the east coast) if I could go to an equally reputable school closer to my home. Ok so here are my questions (in bold…):

Does UBC have a good reputation internationally? Could studying computer science get me into a very prestigious grad school in the US like Stanford? I personally haven’t heard much about it, but, then again, today is the first time that I heard of McGill, and It is supposed to be fantastic (so what do I know?). I just looked at the US news rankings of the best universities in the world and UBC is #44, so I’d say that’s pretty damn good (although after reading further down the list, I began to question its integrity). But I’d still like to know what the public’s view of UBC is.

here’s the list: [World’s Best Universities; Top 400 Universities in the World | US News](http://www.usnews.com/education/worlds-best-universities-rankings/top-400-universities-in-the-world?page=4)

Another reason that I’m really liking UBC is because they only look at 12th year grades. I honestly am just really lazy. In years 9-11 I just floated by, and when I finally realized I needed to get my act together, it was too late to get into schools in the US of a similar caliber to UBC. This year I am taking the most rigorous courses possible for me and I am receiving stellar grades (in my humble opinion). Are there any other good Canadian universities that take an exclusive look at year 12 grades?

Also I have noticed that there are two campuses associated with UBC. Is there a location that is significantly better than the other (Vancouver v Okanagan)?

I am almost in scramble-mode for college apps. I’m really thinking of taking a leap of faith and try to go to a Canadian university. Some US universities would end up leaving me in huge debt, when I could make what seems like a better decision and go to UBC.

I had other questions but, in the midst of writing this, I forgot them. I’ll post them if I remember.

Also, if there is anything else that I should know, that you my think of please let me know.

Thank You for taking the time to read this and thank you for responding.

UBC has an excellent reputation and is known world wide. You should have no problem going to grad school in any US institution.

UBC also does NOT look exclusively look at senior year grades, unfortunately. They take junior and senior year into consideration combined. As for schools that look exclusively at senior year grades, I don’t know :(

Also, Okanagan is the new campus, so it’s definitely not as established as the Vancouver campus. The vancouver campus is definitely the better known one. I don’t wanna use the word “better” but… it kind of is lol :P

And financially, UBC is definitely an excellent choice. Canada has a really stable economy so you don’t have to worry about tuition going up and it’s still pretty cheap for internationals :)

Unless you live in Quebec .

LOOL very true. Good thing OP isn’t applying to Mcgill :P

@Caljunio12: Im an international who got into both the engineering programs at UBC and MCgill. I can’t decide between the two. Academically UBC is a bit better for eng and has amazing weather(judging from people I have talked to) while Mcgill’s prestige stands out even in Asia. I know its a bit late but any information will be a great help1
1)How do the 2 compare
2) what are the job opportunities on campus
3) What avenues does a degree from each open up
4) Can you get jobs in US with a UBC degree?

P.S I also got into UW madison. How does it compare to these schools

Please reply
