Chinese out there? Help me regarding Chinese universities..

May I know.. outside of Peking, Tsinghua and Fudan.. What are the top universities in China for Math, Physics, Engineering and Economics? Many thanks!

University of Science and Technology of China is there amongst 50 best technological universities in the world(2007).. So I suppose it's good..???.... and btw.. I am not a chinese..

OMG, there're so few Chinese out here?

University of Science and Technology of China is very strong among Chinese universities regarding physics, math, and engineering, I guess it is the second best. But that university is in Anhui province, where there are far less dynamic city life. A good place to do research though. Also Zhejiang University, Shanghai Communication University, Tongji University, are all good for its engineering. These are some of the top tier universities.

Regarding economics, besides Beijing University, Renmin University is the best.

Martin, thanks.. Is Shanghai Communication = shanghai jiaotong?

How hard is it for internationals to get in? Anyone know?

I find it strange that you come to this American forum looking for Chinese speaking nationals to give you advice.

Anyway, as with anything you heard on the internet, take it with a grain of salt.

The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology is ranked pretty high internationally in many areas & they have a student exchange program with a number of N. American schools.

Phonetically, Shanghai Communication = Shanghai Jiaotong

How do you guys insert a quote?

Whenever I clicked on the little box where it says "Quote message reply", it won't let me.

jhl- I lived in China for quite a few years so I think I can help you. As far as I know, it's quite easy for internationals to get into those top universities in China. The government has some policies that encourage univerisities to admit foreigners, so I guess there must be a quota system (albeit very secretive). I know a British girl with not-so-good A levels who is now at Fudan University. Having said that, her Chinese is superb. I think you have to take a language test, but it won't be too hard (as I said, they desperately NEED foreign students).

Hi, I am a Chinese, and I think I can answer some of your questions.

First, Universities in China have strong fields and weak fields too. For example, Peking University is a good B.A school, but I think it's no good in science. Compare with which, Tsinghua U have great reputation in science field but not at all in humanities etc.

I know more about science and engineer than physics.

Though I don't know about the world rank, I think the Southern Chinese Institution of Tech( Huanan Institute ot tech in Chinese) is good at Chem engineer and Bio engineer, and the southeast University(Dongnan University) in Nanjing is good in mechanical engineer, electronic/electric engineer, but it's no good in pure science. Also, Nanjing University is good in pure science but have average engineer programs.

Martin Yang has said lots about other Universities and I think he recommand good schools too.

Hong Kong Universities, I believe there are eight universities alone in this city are very strong ranked highly among the world rankings.

I'd definitely recommend you investigate these schools as well.

interesting that you are going to college in china. Most chinese I know spend millions trying to get into U.S. or British colleges.

HKUST USTC are peer with three schools in these fields

to b berries, peking university has a world-class program in science esp. math, physics and computer science. tsinghua univ. and HKUST is stronger in engineering. USTC is stronger in physics and computer science with the number one rate of transfering into us colleges.

I only think Fudan University , Peking University, Tsinghua University and Hk University can be the best universities in China.
