Just got accepted as a fall 2019 transfer! im super excited but nervous about being behind the 8 ball on housing. I’ve heard that since lemon was converted to a freshman dorm and one tribe place being closed for renov. Housing has been a big of a disaster for upperclassmen this year. Does anyone have any advice for a transfer on getting the best housing available/ favorite dorms? A social aspect is very important to me as a transfer whos gotta make all new friends, but I currently live in an apartment and being stuck in a huge hall style dorm would be a bit of a culture shock for me.
Thanks! Go tribe!
Well, they all complained a lot, for sure.
A hallway dorm is much better for meeting people, so take comfort in that. And unlike the freshman dorms, the upperclass ones are all air conditioned.
Try doing a search in the student newspaper, The Flat Hat, for more colloquial descriptions than the ones on the Res Life web pages.
I’m also looking for on campus housing! I think living on campus is the best way to make friends (besides Greek life but I don’t have money for that)
Housing was difficult this year for the reasons you mentioned. It sounds like transfers will be placed wherever they have extra spots and a lot will depend on how many students end up not returning and what dorms spots will open up because of that. Any of the upperclass dorms will be fine. All have AC and distance to classrooms isn’t much of an issue since the campus is very walkable. There is a dorm, Richmond Hall, that is a renovated hotel on Richmond Road. It’s out on the edge of campus, but does have regular bus service. The rooms are hotel rooms with double beds and private bathroom for all living there.
