I was recently accepted to UVA as a second year transfer into the College of Arts and Sciences. Because I am a transfer student, I get all the perks of an upperclassman, despite the fact that I am only 18 (I graduated high school early). My housing will most likely have a kitchen but I still want a meal plan so I am not pressured to cook every day. Does anyone have suggestions to which upperclassman dining plan would fit my needs the best?

If you want to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day in the dining hall, choose the unlimited meal plans. However, most people prefer the plans with the flex dollars because: 1) they don’t wake up early enough to go out to the dining hall for breakfast, 2) they can use flex dollars to buy stuff for cold breakfasts in their dorms, and 3) they are more likely to want a late night snack (which they can pay for with flex dollars) than an early breakfast. The flex dollars carry over from semester to semester, but not from year to year.

They say you can always increase your meal plan, but it is hard to decrease it. Therefore, you might start with a lesser meal plan and then upgrade it if you like the food and if your schedule works. People say Newcomb has the worst food, which is unfortunate because it is the most conveniently located to classes.

When surveys are conducted of UVa students, the quality of the dining hall food is the one thing that often does not rate highly. You might find you can do better at the Corner.

You should probably post this in the UVA forum. You’ll get more responses.

You’re most likely already fat, so I suggest you dont get the meal plan that gives you a lot of meals, the freshmen 15 is real.
