Best way to get to campus in August?

From Montana, Amtrak is over two days for $205
Airlines are about $215

I know the choice seems obvious (it really is), but can I fly and still get all my stuff down there? Can you mail your stuff to USC and have it held until you get there? Or mail it when you fly out and wait for it there?

And it will be my first time in LA, so either way it should be fun.

wish i had my private's licence already so i could fly myself

You probably could mail/ship some of your belongings. The timing is what is critical. Somewhere on CC or on UCS's website, i read that they (USC) will not accept shipments without the recipient being available for the delivery (i.e., you would absolutely need to be sure that the delivery of belongings arrives AFTER you do).

University Housing will not accept any packages addressed to you until you arrive on move-in day (August 16). So yeah, do time packages that you ship.

Wow, you must really be private...hope you can make friends here...

lol...sry, bad joke. I hope you meant pilot's license. :D

My brother lives about 20-30 minutes from campus. Worse case scenario, you can contact me (pvt) and I bet he would take receipt till you get there. Or, have them arrive after you get there.

Well, you can actually mail your stuff and have it get there during that week, even if it's before you get there. They say that they won't accept packages before you arrive, but when I did the whole move in process last year (ya, I'm a current student, but I'll graduate with the class of 2010) there were plenty of people who had stuff mailed to themselves. They'll just hold it there until you arrive.

$215 for airfare? It's only going to cost me around $165 and I'm coming from Boston. Did you try STA travel and other travel finders to look for the best fares? This could really make a difference.

I'm from montana, so I need to make a few stopovers

The housing office today confirmed that they will return any packages which arrive before the student does, but folks can & do take their chances on this.

I don't know which bldg ur in vocal, but the Parkside CSC definitely did not hold packages; I remember some people who were under the wrong impression then later got into a dispute with the CSC manager back in August.

I think you take your chances if you have any package arrive before you do because the USC housing office said they will return all such packages & you may be charged for shipping/reshipping. Seems like a hassle to me.

i'm probably going to drive down...5 hours is not that bad
