Best way to get to Lincoln Park

I am meeting a friend in a few days at Fullerton (CTA), which I assume is in or around Lincoln Park. Starting from campus, what is the best way to get there and get back?

I have heard that if you walk straight down Ellis, past Ratner, there will be a bus stop directly across the street from the Ellis Avenue parking lot. Take the 55 bus past the Garfield green line stop and the red line stop should immediately follow. Then you can take the red line northbound directly to Fullerton with no stops in between.

Since I haven't really payed attention the past few times I've taken the train with fellow housemates, is it really easy to find out which of the two trains you should take if you are northbound?

Are the above steps are reversible meaning that I can take the red line from Fullerton to Garfield and then take the 55 bus back to campus? Is this the best route?

You can take the 55 or the 6. The 55 and I fell out of favor with each other when I've waited too long for it to come.

The 6 has a few stops-- if you live in Max, the best stop is at 57th and Stony Island, but there's also a stop at 55th and Hyde Park. Take the 6 in the direction of Michigan/Wacker and it will drop you off on Michigan Ave. Get off at Jackson and catch the red line two blocks west on State st. Red line to Fullerton.

The Red line will not go directly to Fullerton, though the purple line express will, I think. Don't worry about that for now, though-- the purple line has commuter hours.

I don't know what unalove meant to say, but the Red Line does stop at Fullerton.

I would add that the Red Line Garfield stop doesn't "immediately follow" the Green Line stop. The Green Line stop is just on the other side of Washington Park. The Red Line stop is about a mile (or more) further west -- if you were waiting for it to come up immediately, you would get really nervous. But you can't miss it: it's in the middle of the Dan Ryan Expressway. You can see it coming for blocks and blocks.

What I meant to say was that the Red Line does not go expess to Fullerton from the stop closest to the U of C (Garfield), stops in the loop. When the OP wrote "no stops in between," I interpreted that to mean express, and only the purple line goes express. Maybe what the OP intended to say by "no stops in between" is no having to transfer from one line to another, which would be correct.
