getting there from O'Hare airport

Hi,
would any Chicago residents or current U of C. students know where to get off the shuttle (the one that runs from the O'Hare Intl. Airport to the South Side) if im heading to the University (admissions office). Thanks

its my understanding (and i'm a fellow prospy, not a uc student) that the nearest shuttle stop is at rockefeller chapel. i could be wrong though

i dont know anything about the shuttle. But you can take the CTA train ( the 'el' ) which has a blue line stop at OHare. Get off at Jackson or Washington and transfer to the Red Line (you have to walk a block underground, right under downtown) and take the Red Line south to Garfield/55, and take the 55 bus East (not West!!!!) to University or so, and you can walk from there. Or you can take the green line in a similar fashion, which also has a stop on 55th street/Garfield. http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/systemmaps.html

This may be useless to you, though, if you're taking a shuttle.

oh, I found it actually. Rockefeler is a block from admissions

You could also take the blue line and then walk a few blocks to the metra

I know your not familiar with the area, and this will be the first of many times you will hear this:

Never under any circumstances ride on the Green Line.

Never take the green line? When I was there in the early 1980s, a much tougher era, I took the green line all the time. I lived on the north side, and worked, then went to school (MBA) at Chicago. I did not ride it after dark, but in daylight hours, it was not a bad trip, even though I was often the only anglo in a car.

These days, given that most of the tough south side projects are gone, I find it hard to believe that (1) the green line is worse or (2) that I was taking my life in my hands in years past.

Maybe someone carrying an expensive laptop or done out in club wear is prey? I dunno?

I too, took the green line during the '80s....and I took it after dark on a few occasions (must've had a death wish - LOL). Only found helpful people, since I was obviously lost.
