What is the most efficient way to prepare for the SAT Essay portion? I'm taking the test in October by the way.

Hey. Well, to be honest, the SAT essay is basically this:

CB gives you prompt

You read and understand prompt and make a decision about what side you pick.

Quickly (and I emphasize this, QUICKLY), think up two to three examples that would support your position on the prompt, and write about them with a constant eye for connecting them to your opinion.

Write a conclusion that ties it all together and really drives home your point.

The key to a high score is to PROVE YOUR POINT. Don't just throw in "big" words and whatnot. Pick a stance and convince the reader why you're right. Shoe-horning rare and pretentious erudite-sounding words will only give the impression that you're a pompous ass (especially if you use them incorrectly). Using sophisticated words properly and in moderation to strengthen the quality of the essay and the believability of your point is a good thing.

I got a 12 on my essay, if you're wondering.
