Best way to study for accounting?

I realize this question might be weird, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to study accounting. Do you guys recommend reading the book and then doing problems? Skimming the book then doing problems? Doing problems and learn as you go?

Would really appreciate the help.

I (finishing my 4th accounting course) always did best studying my class notes then doing problems. Sometimes the prof selects problems that are best to do, and so I do those first and then the rest if I need to. I read the book before tests. This has worked well, and I've gotten all A's at a very tough acc program (UF).

What I found to be useful is to really know all of the solved problems in the book cold! I then review all of the homework problems as to know that cold. I rarely had any problem.

^ Good point that I forgot to mention.

Don't confuse "knowing" a problem with really knowing how to do it. Make sure you can do every problem with NO help and no reference.

I agree with ABC. I’ve run into the same issue where I’d be flipping back in my notebook to be able to do problems. I think after you’ve read through a chapter and understand the concepts you should be able to do the problems with no help, internet or otherwise. From there, you can check your answers against any solutions presented in the book or going over them with your professor.

I’m basically finding that by copying the notes, explaining the concepts out loud (it helps you retain the info!), and then actually solving the problems you hit the why and the how - the most important things to know when studying any technical subject.

Hope this insight helps a little.

^ thread is over five years old. OP has either figured things out by now or failed out of the program.

Did not realize the post date. Sorry for resurrecting an old post.

XD domrom1, that was possibly the funniest thing I’ve read on this forum.
(sorry for continuing the resurrection but I had to give you props for that)
