Hi CCers. Recently, I have been in a frustrating predicament and I honestly do not know what to do. In my EMT-B class, I had a final exam and a final exam retake both of which I failed. Today, I discovered that we have an opportunity to retake this final exam one last time next week in order to be eligible for clinicals and the NREMT test. What is the best way to study for this final exam? I have a workbook I borrowed from class and I have used it to study a few units, taken the culmative practice test it obtained and reviewed my missed answers all during the period of time between my first final and the retake which did not increase my score on the retake. Since this exam is cumulative it will be difficult finishing the workbook. Also, the workbook only provides a brief summary of the units and is therefore not thorough. We need an 80 percent on the final to pass and currently I have received a 56 on both the past final exam and the retake; both of the finals were very different from one another. There is also this website called FISDAP that costs $31 but contains a plethora of review questions, but so far my classmates that have used FISDAP said it was ineffective. I would greatly appreciate some advice. If I fail this final exam then I must retake the class which I do not want to do.
Do you know what questions you got wrong?
How do the classmates know that FISDAP is ineffective?
Would your parents help pay for FISDAP so you can get more help in studying?
- I know the answers I got wrong for the first final wrote down the concepts that I missed, studied over those concepts and still failed the retake because the final was completely different. I did not have sufficient time to review my retake once I got to see my score. We did not have the opportunity to take them home either.
- I do not know the answer to that question but you are right. I should not take my classmates’ word for it.
- My parents would help me pay for FISDAP. However, my parents and I consider $31 to be expensive for an online study tool. We are reluctant mainly because I still have school, assignments to complete and studying commitments for AP exams. Therefore, I likely cannot provide more than 2 hours of studying for my the retake. My parents think free online resources would still be more beneficial, but I have used some of the online resources available and they were not very helpful. I would be more supportive of the idea if I had more time but after I take this last final retake it is highly unlikely I will use FISDAP.
@bopper Sorry I referenced an incorrect person in my response above.
As an update turns out I failed my final by 2 points. Although I was initially disappointed and frustrated, I eventually got over it. At least I will use this opportunity to gain knowledge from and continue my medical studies. However, it’s unlikely I will enroll in a college EMT course and repeat a similar process since I am not truly interested in becoming one. Thank to everyone on this thread, I appreciate your advice.
