Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters

"But I loved the phrase “You wrote an impressive application”. While some applicants may have thrown their applications together the night before, those who sweated over their essays are likely to appreciate this nod to their efforts."

I doubt many people that applied to Tufts (or any other top school) threw their applications together the night before.

You'll be surprised how many do leave their apps to the night before they're due.

Does anyone how Lehigh's rejection letter or acceptance letter is? and what does UCB say the first word if you get accepted or the first word if you get rejected

"My mom asked jokingly whether the rejection packages came in envelopes labelled "NO!!!""

That somehow reminds me of one of the Capital One credit card commercials....I watched too much TV lol

I hear JHU gives out decisions on the phone...whoever has THAT job must want to commit suicide....
Caller: I'd like to find out my decision?
AdCom: What's your name?
Caller: Bob Jones.
AdCom: Sorry, you were rejected.
Caller: (Bawling...)
AdCom: Uh....have a nice day!!! (hangs up)

I've always wondered how decisions over the phone work...it must feel terrible telling an eager applicant on the other side that they were rejected.

There's a lady here once that was nice enough to tell an applicant that she doesn't know his decision and that he should check online instead, knowing full well he was rejected.

probably wasn't nice of her.. oh well

Very funny^^.

Trinity's acceptance was nice. The letter is in a general format but the second para. of the acceptance is specifically tailored, that says sth. abt the unique abt the applicant and why s/he was accepted.....they usually pick stuffs from the applicant's recommendations.

I haven't gotten a lot of acceptances yet.

But I got one from Seattle U (like, the safety of my safety..hhahaha)

but it was nice! In the first paragraph, they personalized it and said they liked my essay because it was proactive, insightful, and showed how i was mature.

i like personalizations. :)

So far, son has only received one letter & it was an acceptance with a scholarship from Santa Clara U. It was nice, welcoming & congratulatory, but not particularly personalized about anything son had in his ap. It does say, "Savor the moment" and some other stuff.

Still, the scholarship will come in handy if he decides to matriculate there. It also has info about visits, housing, deposits, etc. All in all, an acceptance is a good way to start off replies, especially since they want to give him $!

Awesome :)

I got a $3k/yr scholarship letter from UT-Knoxville today. It's my safety of safeties, but at least I know I will be going SOMEWHERE...thank goodness.

It wasn't very personalized, but then it was just from the FinAid dep't.

Cornell College, Iowa - A hard-copy of the letter attached to the email, congratulating me on my acceptance and my scholarship award. It was in a regular sized enveloped, papers thrice folded. "We believe you will thrive amidst the challenges and opportunites that comprise the Cornell experience. In turn, we are excited and confident about the positive contributions that you will make to our distinctive and diverse college community." Not extremely personalized, though they did address me by my nickname. :)

Beloit - Wicked cool! There were two packages. The first one was in a folder with one side saying "Tah-dah!" and with the "next steps" with the letter of acceptance and financial/scholarship statement. I was also addressed as "Izzy" :D
On the other side it said "To-do!" and "there's more" and it has the residential forms (which totally excited me) and the health forms. With Beloit, you can send the residential preferences form first, without committing yourself, and then your deposit later if you're sure and they average out the dates between the two to find your "priority date". I had a lot of fun agonizing over residential preferences. :D There's also a postcard with a turtle on it, and it gives you the id, password to a forum/site for only admitted students. And the envelope's sticker is this really gorgeous cool golden turtle. I couldn't to bend it so I slit the envelope open along the top. laugh

In the other package (sealed with a stick saying "dreams") was an uber-gorgeous booklet with stickers on the front saying words such as "love", "dreams", "sloth", "impossible questions", "sweat", "struggle", "soul" and "big ideas". It's so gorgeous.. Inside describes some students and their various projects/majors and how disparate things can actually be connected. Then it also goes into detail about the curriculum, facilities, faculty at Beloit.

Wow...

Knox College - In a big purple folder (no sticker on envelope) stating on the front "YOU ARE KNOX" because they send prospective mailings with "Are you Knox?" Inside is my acceptance letter, addressed to Izzy as well, stating my scholarships. Not terribly personal, except the Dean of Admissions signs in purple ink his name and "Congratulations, Izzy!" :D The rest was my financial award statement and my I-20 documents (being an international and all). What's cool is on the back of the folder an certificate is inserted, proclaiming me as a Muelder Scholar. grins Signed by the Dean of Admissions, again, in purple ink. "Academic Achievement" "Love of Learning" "Potential for Success" "YOU ARE KNOX" "I****** **** J*********" (my entire name, in its formality) "Muelder Scholar" "The Hermann R. Muelder Scholarship is named for one of our most respected history professors. Muelder wrote critically acclaimed works about the history of the Midwest, the anti-slavery founders of Knox, and the City of Galesburg."

Wow...Beloit and Knox really knocked me off my feet and onto my tushie!

My friend said that Lehigh's acceptance letter (he did ED) came in this little tattered envelope with like a single sheet of paper

St. Louis College of Pharmacy sent me a wine bottle with graffiti and a rolled up certificate saying I was accepted. It was really creative IMO.

geneseo's letter was nice, it came in a fancy folder labeled "Offer of Admission." no confusion there!

rochester's came in a folder, too, but not quite as officially titled. the envelope that the folder came in said welcome to rochester, though. :)

uvm was a bit more subtle, but the slightly larger size of the firmly packed envelope sort of gave it away.

Does anyone know what the College of the Holy Cross's acceptance letter looks like?

I'm in a bizarre position of getting all sorts of mail from them that makes me feel like I was accepted, but I can't be sure...

kevdude- i appied to holy cross, too. i'm guessing that their acceptance letter is a big fat envelope. i haven't been getting a ton of mail from them recently like you have, but i did get a thing on financial aid about a month after i applied. do you know when their decisions come out?

Bentleys whole acceptance package was really nicely presented.. they're literature in general has been great, and they've sent me two tshirts since I was accepted...

St Johns was the worst.. they sent me a very, very, small envelope which made me think that they were rejecting me, when really they were accepting me into their honors program with a pretty substantial scholarship.

From a marketing perspective, Bentley's package was great, Northeastern sent my parents a decal, Geneseo wrote a very flattering letter, and sent me a tshirt after I visited. St Johns was the worst.. they didn't even send me a viewbook..

UMass-Amherst has such a nice package. A nice-looking,very large envelope with "Congratulations!" written on it, and a beautiful, textured folder with the UMass seal and "Offer of Admissions" on it.

It was much nicer than UMich. Much easier to sort through the information, too.

I've come to the conclusion that those of us that did EA/ED this year and got in, for the most part, aren't seeing what the school would send normally, especially at smaller schools, so, I'll wait until the end of this month and see if I get anything more substantial from Tufts, to redeem them, lol, jk...
