Best/Worst

This is for alums/current students, what did you find to be the best thing about tulane and the worst? be honest, dont say 'it was just awesome, nothing bad'. i am sure there was one thing you didnt like about it, even if it was menial.

Only a first year so my perspective is limited-

Best-
First semester

Worst-
Campus is suprisingly isolated. You need a car or have an appreciation for biking to get away from it

best thing is the campus (huge, gorgeous, ancient castle like buildings), amazing food, great people, excellent history to the school (founded in 1834), incredible academics (supberb southern recognition), warm weather, close to the ocean, unbelievably social city (so much to do in new orleans)

worst thing is, honestly i cant think of anything bad about tulane

haha...wait so how many semesters have you completed at tulane, jayhawk?

Best-
The people. Diversity and diferences in people make finding people you can like easier.

Worst-
Bruff food. I am so glad I got off a meal plan as soon as I could.

that is the response a current student gave me...get off my case

did someone say amazing food? they must have been high off of the cociane problem...

unless they meant new orleans food in general, which is amazing.

i cant tell if jayhawk is happy or not about going to tulane.

lol are u being sarcastic?

My son would say:
Best: living in New Orleans
Worst: the food at Bruff. (and he's NOT a foodie-type at all).
His complaints are frequent and vigorous. Such an irony since NOLA has among the best food of any city I've every visited.

My D would agree with curiouser's S about Bruffs. I just found out this week, that the food services at the new UC close at 5:00 pm every day! My D says they were told there are not enough employees. But the point is, if the students are involved in activities that last past 5, Bruffs is almost the only option.

Actually, the dining services were on rotating availibility. On m/w I think it was taco bell and sushi nori that would stay open until 7, while on t/r einsteins and quiznos stays open until 7. Then The Rat opens at 7 for most of the night and morning. It was entirely possible to avoid Bruff like the plague, and I did it. Hopefully this changes next year with longer hours.

I don't understand the unavailability of workers at a university that couldn't assign my son his work-study hours because they had to hire local workers first. ???
He has other, more efficiently profitable work now, but he went in with experience in food service (even at his "host" uni's food service) so this makes little sense. I'm sure there are plenty of others like him there who can use the work.

More to the point of this thread, he agrees with everyone regarding Bruff food--pretty awful, but one must use a meal plan to even get the RA meal stipend AND to make good use of 529 savings plans, so don't forget the details involved, for your own financial sakes.
