I am going to transfer, and my major is business administration-management. I just got admitted to CSULB, SDSU, UCR, and I am waiting for CSUF.
I prefer to go to CSUF, but my parents prefer me to go UCR or SDSU. I search a lot of information for the 4 schools. I want to ask which school have a better business program for student in the future when they go into the career? Do SDSU really have a better ranking than CSUF for business? I am trying to find the reason to persuade my parents that CSUF is better, but I don’t know how to!!!
business school ranking:
- SDSU
- CSULB
- CSUF
- UCR
all 4 have solid biz programs but have gotten pretty selective for transfer admission so, congrats on the admissions so far. Ranking programs like these against one another is really subjective. In the abstract, i’d rank them like this:
1 SDSU
2 UCR
3 CSULB
4 CSUFullerton
But ,you gotta go where you will excel, not where some old dude from Nor Cal thinks is best. You need to explain to yourself (and your parents if they are paying the bills) why Fullerton will present you with opportunities not available at the other schools.
In your mind, what is so great about Fullerton?
To be honest, I live in San Diego with my relative and I want to have an experience of living outside for my last two or three year in college. However, I also care about the reputation of the school I chose because it is about my future career. I thought CSUF really have a pretty good reputation for their business major in California. When I search for the ranking, I usually saw SDSU and then CSUF. Seldom saw UCR and CSULB.
Why is CSUF the fourth in your ranking?
Can you explain why CSULB is higher than CSUF and why UCR is the last one?
I really want to know the reason to compare the four school.
again, any ranking of fairly similar programs is highly subjective. All 4 turn out solid graduates and seeing one name vs another on resume wouldn’t sway me much. What would sway me is relevant experience like an internship. All else equal, I’d hire a Fullerton grad who made something of his time there vs one from UCB who did nothing but school.
As someone who has been involved in the hiring process at big companies for a LONG time, Fullerton is last on my list because it is the least residential, has the lowest selectivity and has kinda played games with it’s ‘local’ admissions for the last several years - meaning most of the people they admit are from area high schools and CCs. This creates a a student body that has largely had the same experience and continues to live in that environment, commuting to their family home. What does that have to do with their Biz program? Well, discussions you have with your peers in and around class when you are working on case studies and projects is where you learn many of the nuances of marketing, etc. Varied perspectives and backgrounds leads to richer discussions, a deeper understanding of the subject matter and a broader perspective. Each of which will serve you well when you work for a big company. Also, since most people commute, they tend to leave campus right after class and this will put a damper on your ‘away’ experience.
But, you don’t need to please me… you need to follow you heart. Where you go to college is just one aspect of your qualifications for the real world. Just evaluate the options with an open mind.
