Due to my personal interest, skillset, and prior internship experience, I decided to go with the Polsci degree but of course I’m at a bit of a crossroads as to where to take it at the moment about where I should take it.
Comparative: Honestly, I looked at the course catalog and was actually really intrigued by the offerings.
On top of that, I hear that UCSD’s program for it is a heavy-hitter in the academic world which admittedly does appeal to me.
Public Law: I’ve basically heard nothing about this major. However, it plays into a) how I may be interested in continuing onto Law School ( everything I’m great at is tested by the LSAT so maybe it’s not that much of a pipe dream?) and b) my slight interest in pursuing a career in criminal justice. Of course I’m not hellbent on these career/education tracks, but I think it is worth consideration.
…and what about the general Polisci degree? Is it better if I just go with that for flexibility’s sake?
I am aware of the cold, hard fact that many potential employers/recruiters usually don’t care for such details and maybe just see the “Polsci” (if they even care about a degree), but I still would like a 2nd opinion on it.
I also am interested in double minoring. Both, accounting and business, I need to take 5 classes for respectively. Is this feasible? Some advice on this I’d very much appreciate.
Additional information to consider:
-after this quarter, I’ll have to take 12 classes to get my major
-I 1000% want to graduate in two years, staying another isn’t an option
-I’m participating in work-study, or going to try to…there’s plenty of time to apply for a job, right?
-I do want to do the UCDC internship which could be a problem because it takes a whole quarter
-I am interested in minoring in something I’m personally passionate for…would it just be better if I dumped business and went for that? It may take 7 classes, though
-I am willing to go overtime with my credits for at least 3 quarters–petitioning for it isn’t hard, right? I also can attend the summer quarter of 2017…unless it costs significantly more to do so
-Dunno if this is worth saying, but I’m going to independently study a language I already know some of and work towards getting certified for it on my transcript
