Okay. For humanities, in particular philosophy & social anthropology, which would you go to for undergraduate work? A couple rank much higher than the others in the UK league tables, but lower in world rankings...

Durham
Edinburgh
St Andrews
Kings College London

Durham & Kings have 3-year BA's, Edinburgh and St Andrews, 4-year, so the question of cost definitely figures in.

Opinions?

Thanks!

All have an excellent academic reputation. League tables should be taken with more than a pinch of salt - look at what figures they use to compile them, and work out if those are important to you.

The advantage of a Scottish degree is that you get to do some modules from outside your course, which is much rarer with an English degree. However, you should be looking in great detail at the modules that will be available to you. Two degrees with identical names can have very different content.

As cost is important to you, then it should be noted that living in London is extortionately expensive - if you wanted to live in central London (near KCL) then you would be paying double the rent compared to somewhere like Durham. If you lived outside central London, then you would have to factor in the cost of the Tube and travel time. So, out of those four, it would be cheapest to live and study in Durham.

Hi again, boomting. I believe we’ve met before! Thank goodness you’re on CC to answer my questions… Yes, you’re absolutely right about London. It’s the least likely of choices.

Now you mention it, I think we have met before <ninja emote=""></ninja>

Durham>Kings>Edinburgh>St. Andrews

based on location and reputation.

Kinda what I thought. Thanks.
